Five stars bc it works as good as a PPI!!! But dear Lord in Heaven! I grind these up to powder and swallow 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner. So that I don't have to chew them and have pieces lingering in my teeth. Terrible taste and I take some supplements that are gross but this one tops them all. Horbssch is a fantastic brand. Always love what they sell. So effective I keep purchasing until my ulcers are completely healed.

Swallowed while it gave me stomach gas. No such problem when chewed. Also, when I chewed it I discovered it was sweet - that made it palatable. After several weeks' usage, my non-inherited dry type macular degeneration partially cleared up as follows: the central vision of my left eye had for ten years been completely obscured by thoroughly black spot. The 5 supplements I took daily for 4 weeks were 1-Minyoutia Cortexi Hearing Support Drops, 2-Anise Star Alcohol-Free Liquid, 3-Pure Encapsulations Resveratrol, 4-BulkStimulants Pure ATP Adenosine Triphosphate Powder, 5-Berberine Supplement 4700mg, 6-DGL Licorice Chewable Tablets | 4000mg. My dime-sized black spot has become transparent within a narrow gray halo around its edge! The eye's focus has become like biewviewing thru the wrong side of a loupe, I.e., objects appear very small. As a test I subsequently stopped taking all these for several weeks with no loss of clarity. Just having the thoroughly black spot mostly disappear is great even though one eye's vision remains distorted and its center of focus remains elevated (on a plane higher than my unaffected eye's level). During this time I continued my usual regimin of ordinary vitamin supplements. These results were totally unanticipated and remain inexplicable, but very pleasant. I have shared them with a friend who has the same malady.

I often have to laugh as folks comments about the taste of DGL products. I choose this one for it's ingredients (namely Xyltol as the sugar), despite some poor reviews on flavor. Well, it's doesn't taste quite like licorice. And unlike the product I had been getting (that saw a noticable price jump), this one does not contain any Anise flavoring. Instead it has Fennel Seed (which tastes a lot like Anise seed). So for me it's fine, and much better than those that try for the Chocolate or Orange flavoring. I like Licorice and anise and feneel. If you don't, you won't like it. Or anything containing those flavors.

ONE YEAR UPDATE: For myself I only get indigestion two or three times a month now. I don’t feel comfortable saying that it can be fully attributed to using this product, but I definitely feel more comfortable using this product instead of antacids. I do still use an antacid, but that’s so rare it’s hardly worth mentioning. I’ll definitely continue with this product. Original comment: I was concerned about the taste after reading some reviews about it being terrible but happen to like the taste of black licorice so I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did. It tastes just fine. Several minutes after taking my first one I felt some fluttering in my stomach and wondered what was about to happen. Soon I burped and felt great. I’ve been taking these for a week or more now and I see/feel a big difference between licorice and antacids. I still have taken one antacid in that time but I notice I feel much better gastronomically since I started this. It’s cheap enough to test out that you won’t go broke if you don’t like it but I’ve been impressed with it this far.

Horrible tasting. I don’t care if they work.

I usually don't write many reviews but this Horbach's DGL was so good I had to write one! I was having heart palpitations due to acid reflux. Previously I tried Life Extension Esophacool and Nature's Way DGL but they worked minimally. You can hardly taste the licorice in both of them. When I took the Horbach's DGL I could immediately taste the licorice, almost as strong as regular licorice candy and it immediately stopped the palpitations. I only took less than half of one tablet but it worked in seconds. This is the one to take! I'm glad I tried it. From what I've read the licorice increases the production of mucus which protects the esophagus so I'm surprised it worked so quickly. The instructions say to take 2 tablets before meals and bedtime but I'll take it as needed probably after a meal and before bed. One tablet or even half a tablet seems to be sufficient but I need to experiment. Hope this is helpful to all reflux sufferers.

These do work. They work well. However... when I first bought a bottle a YEAR ago, it was $7.99. It has risen steadily in price since. At this rate it's going to be $20 in a few months. Neither inflation nor "bottle change" accounts for an almost 100% price increase. It's gouging, pure and simple. Horbaach/Carlyle used to be my go to brand for supplements for their efficacy and cheapness, but their products have been losing quality at the same rate they've been getting more expensive. It's a damn shame. For anyone else who's tired of relying on this stuff, search online for pure DGL powder. You can make it into a syrup and add other things good for your stomach and digestion like marshmallow root, slippery elm, ginger, glutamine, etc. and sweeten/flavor it to your liking. It works just as or better than these tablets, and can last you a year or more instead of a month. It's a bit of work to make, but you won't be a slave to this crap anymore.

Two years ago I was prescribed several antibiotics in quick succession to relieve a highly discomforting skin rash. The antibiotic regimen nuked the good bacteria in my gut. I was then diagnosed with H.Pylori and received the medicine to cure that. Problem being, the GERD/Belching/upper diaphragmatic pressure symptoms continued unabated for the last 18 months. I felt like "the old lady who swallowed the fly" preschool rhyme of old. It was really dragging me down on a daily basis and culminated in severe depression. I tried all manner of Florastor, Align, probiotics, prebiotics, manuka honey, this time of day, that time of day, cut this food out, add that food back in, stop vaporizing cannabis, etc - all of which seemed to mildly (5%) improve symptoms, but with no actual cure. Mastic Gum seemed to be the most beneficial, but not a complete elimination of symptoms. When I was purchasing the Mastic Gum for a second time, this product was recommended alongside. I am incredibly grateful I gave this a try. It tastes awful. I almost had problems swallowing the first dose and I only took it before lunch one day, instead of before all three meals. However the relief was undeniable. I attempted as much the second day, and again repeated it before dinner. Today is my third day and I started it before breakfast as prescribed and I have to say it has literally almost been two years since I felt this "normal". I am frankly astounded. My relief is almost immeasurable. My purchase history attests as much, I have spent hundreds of dollars to achieve this level of relief and it actually only cost me 9 dollars for this bottle which if used as prescribed will last 3 months. Look up DGL effects on stomach and esophogeal mucous membrane lining and tissue repair. There are pubmed articles that testify to its efficacy. Don't trust my anecdotal experience. Plug your nose or do whatever necessary to stomach the taste. Learn to associate the awful taste with the healing effects and you will learn to love it.
