### ⭐⭐⭐

    Stable but slippery with certain types of shoes/sandals

*by M***R on Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2018*

I bought these pedals in February 2017. I have ridden them for about 2000 miles in city commuting, weekend jaunts of 30 miles or so, and longer touring of multiple days including one tour of 1100 miles covering around 45 days. I have used them in rain, heat, flat terrain, and mountain passes including the Northern Cascades and Glacier Park. I use the pedals on a tout terrain touring bike with pinion IGH and a Gates belt drive. I feel I have given the pedals a fair shake.The good: the pedals are wide and long and provide lots of real estate to put your foot. They are forgiving in that you can easily spin the pedal. With just a bit of the foot on the pedal when starting out on an incline with a fully loaded touring bike you can get some crank movement. If you have ever tried to start out on a hill or mountain with a full load in your panniers and a bit of gravel, sand, or uneven pavement you will appreciate the ample foot space to grab a pedal stroke.The bad: when wet, and depending on your type of shoe, the pedals can be slippery. I have ridden the pedals with Keen bicycle sandals made for cleats. The type of rubber in cleat cover was really hard plastic. I removed it because of slipping issues. The rest of the Keen sandal rubber was ok for non slipping during dry riding. When wet though, I had to be careful lest the sandals slip under torque. I have also ridden the pedals with Exustar sandals and they worked better primarily because the rubber of the sandal was just a bit softer and would therefore adhere to the traction nubs on the pedals. I also rode the pedals 50 miles with Teva water sandals. The adherence was perfect. No slipping. I worried about committing to the Teva's though because I felt a bit of foot fatigue at the end of the ride. Could have been just from a different sandal or because the Teva was too soft and did not provide enough support for my foot. Lastly, I rode the pedals with Birkenstock sandals and oldish New Balance running shoes. The Birkenstocks were ok but still a little slippery. The NB were great but lacked long term support for the ball of my foot while I pedaled.Another shortcoming is that the pedals lack the necessary for attaching any kind of pedal strap, cage, or cleat. I don't ride with cleats but would like the option of pedal straps.The final shortcoming is that the nubs can get filled with mud/dirt. They are easy to clean with a water hose.The upshot: I'll keep them and keep riding them but keep an eye out for something not quite as slippery when wet. I'll give the Teva sandals another shot too.

    These pedals changed everything about my bike.

I just bought a set of these for my beater (an old steel '88 Peugeot St. Laurent), and I was second guessing myself from the moment I gave the cashier my card. These things cost 1/3 as much as the rest of the bike (including a new saddle), and they were HUGE. But Grant Petersen loves them, and my road bike is a Rivendell, so why not try them?30 seconds after I started pedaling, I was sold. They were SO solid, and really light for the size. They spin smoothly, and you feel like you're standing on the floor when you post up. They made me want to stand up the whole time. I would very literally rather climb on these than clipped into my SPD-SLs, and that's saying something. In fact, I may buy another set for my road bike. Since I have 5 or 6 miles of stop-and-go before the freedom of PCH, the minor trade-off of these over clipless might be worth it in convenience.These are really, truly magnificent. My frankenbike feels brand new.

    MKS = legit

This is my fourth pair of lambdas (not cause they wear out, I just have them on four different bikes now). Mostly tour and long work commute (~10 miles) and these are a great platform for any shoe in any weather (at least in Va year around). I usually ride in a minimalist type exercise shoe or chaco/tevas and never had major slippage. I saw another review saying you can't attach straps to these but I have straps on my first pair I bought 6 years ago and do remember it being a little tedious but definitely possible.If I ever hear that these are being discontinued I will buy all that I can find. They're that good.
