Looks like it will work great as a replacement filter for a pump that I can no longer find replacement for. I cut it to fit my pump with an x-acto knife and was easy enough to cut through the thickness. I will be ordering another one as I cut this one incorrectly (I should've measured twice and cut once), but it is exactly what I needed. I installed a simple $10 float and water supply hose to the fountain, so that I don't have to keep refilling it. I would say that this sponge is the spongeiest sponges that I have ever used. It can sponge flat or sponge standing up even sponge sideways. You can really show this sponge off in any direction. Sometimes I like to just throw my sponge in the middle of my sump just to collect all the good bio from the water.
