Hoping that they just "looked" huge, I tried them on. No luck... the calves ARE HUGE, and I have normal calves/not chicken legs. We're talking close to 2" too big in each boot!In reading some of the reviews, it said that the boots ran small. Well, they definitely do not run small. The foot size runs normal to big (plenty of toe space) and the calf area... well, they're HUGE. You can "adjust" the strap, but it's not like a belt, so the calf part of the boots will get scrunched and the sleekness/integrity of the design will be compromised.The leather is of good quality, as ECCO makes good quality boots, and the style is very nice, but it would be best for ladies with calves on the bigger/wider side than normal size. The only reason I did not keep them, is because the espresso I ordered is not as rich looking in person as it is online. It was too drab and muddy for my liking. I would like to stress that it is only the color that I disliked. The boot is great, the service and delivery and return process were great. I have size 10 feet that are a little on the wide side, but these were very comfortable for me. I have a 14" calf and had plenty of room in these to tuck in jeans. I am 5'9" and the boot hit below the crease in the back of my knees, no problem with discomfort. I think the ankle area might have gapped after a couple of wearings but, for the price, this is a really nice boot. I originally bought them at Nordstrom, but looked them up on Amazon when I got home and found out they were WAY cheaper. Needless to say, I returned them to Nordstrom and bought here! It was really hard to wait for delivery, though! These boots are the most beautiful thing I own, and I get lots of compliments on them. The gray color is beautiful, and the leather is buttery soft. These are also the most comfortable boots I own...the footbed is soft and squishy, and they don't hurt my feet like other boots and shoes. Also, they don't stain easily...luckily. Someone spilled beer all over mine right after I got them, and after it dried I couldn't even tell. Whew...crisis averted!
