Does this stabilize the shoulder too or just hold the ice pack in place?

I don't think it's made for stabilizing. Perhaps if you really cranked down on the straps, and removed the ice it might provide some support, then it could mold to your shoulder, but not while the ice is in it. Also, the straps for me were real long. When I tightened them they touched each other and I would have liked to tighten another 1-2 inches. I'm 147, 5'6" if that helps you know the strap lengths for yourself.

What are the dimensions of the ice pack?is is made for left dhoulder

The ice pack itself is approx. 9x10. It fits into the black sleeve holder. The unit is adaptable to either shoulder.

Instead of removing gel pack, is it ok to put entire brace on the freezer with the gel pack already inside?

I've done that and the whole pack was wet. Very uncomfortable.
