I use them just like they are, because the tip is slanted and has a fine point. That is perfect for what I need. Im guessing use a paper towel, pull the tip out, turn it around and replace it. **Q: Are these also dry erase markers?** A: Yes, they will write on any non-porous surface and erase clean that's what I use them for, I've never actually used mine on chalkboard... That seems like it'd be a pain to clean... These are the makers they use to put the daily specials on the wall behind the bar... There is usually a white board or a neon sign with a glass or plastic clear piece that is written on.... Hope this helps **Q: Do these easily clean off chalk-board painted surfaces?** A: Absolutely NO! I have a very special decorative chalk board, that is now ruined. They need to make it absolutely clear that it doesn't wash off of black chalkboard paint. I was assured by all marketing information that this WILL wash off of white boards, black boards, green boards and glass. My mistake was thinking they meant chalkboard black paint. We have tried windex, 409, and dish soap. My husband got a small section cleaned but is threatening to get the sander, so we're done for now **Q: Is it easily cleaned off from chalkboard paint? Rag with water/** A: Hi - we generally do not recommend these markers for this application. Most chalkboard paint is highly porous which means that the markers may leave staining when you attempt to erase them. This is the case with all liquid chalk markers as the pigment is suspended in liquid and will easily absorb into the paint. Many bars and restaurants use our liquid chalk markers on bistro boards painted with chalkboard paint, however they don't change up the writing too often and they periodically re-paint their chalkboards. It was within the same day I posted my review that I received a phone call and an e-mail addressing my concerns for this product. I said it was poor liquid dispense originally, but the seller said to shake it for a good minute prior to using it. The red was originally faulty, and the seller sent me a red replacement, which was a different brand than the originals. BUT my new red is vibrant and works just as good as the other colors. The seller recommended that I erase the board within 24 hours for best results at keeping the chalkboard in good condition and a solid clean of all color. She also recommended that I use the magic eraser with windex to clean the board....I used all of the colors on a chalkboard and waited 3 days to clean it, and the windex and magic eraser combo worked perfect! Just a side note, if you have a chalkboard that has pre-printed designs or phrases on it, be careful because the windex and magic eraser will smudge and eventually erase that as well! (I have a chalkboard to fill out monthly for my daughter). This product is definitely a 5/5 star review now. I would like to offer a bit of advice for the seller...It might be helpful to provide cleaning and more clear instructions for use of the markers.ORIGINAL REVIEW: (3/5 stars) These markers are vibrant and write well. However I gave them a 3/5 because I've followed the instructions to store them on their sides and to shake well and push the tops down before use. When using the markers I find they I have to continuously push down the tops to keep the liquid coming out smoothly. Additionally my red came out in a very dark red-brown. I'm assuming it's broken or faulty in some way but I can't use it at all. Also, removal is a pain. It leaves a shadow of the writing. The only thing that works to remove it is the magic eraser. I saw these chalk markers at a friend’s house so I decided to get some to see how well they would work for me. First of all, these were shipped really quickly and packaged nicely. There is a wide variety of colors which is great! Before you use the markers, make sure that you shake them really well with the cap on. Then, open the cap and press the tip of the marker down on a piece of scrap paper. Keep pressing until liquid fills the tip. They are now ready to write. These colors all come out very bright and vibrant on a chalkboard or glass. I even make little notes on picture frames laying around the house to make menus for the week and stuff like that, almost like dry erase markers but better. You can typically just wipe off with a tissue, maybe get a wet rag if the color is being stubborn. Overall I would highly recommend these if you ever use chalkboards. They are way less messy than actual chalk and actually stand out a lot better than chalk. I did receive this item at a discount in exchange for my honest review. I was very pleased with the vibrant colors and they applied nicely. Just leave ample drying time. My only issue was that they did not erase/wipe clean from the chalkboard paint door. Consequently, I had to repaint the door and just used regular chalk the next time. They did however work very well on some write-on signs that I used as photo booth props and erased completely. It all depends on the surface.
