For encaustic you must use beeswax infused with color or just clear encaustic beeswax ! So fun especially silly if your doing a mixed media piece. I find them nice to use. Not too dry, nor overly oily at all. If others find them dry, I suggest using a little linseed oil on whatever surface you are using them on, before you use the stick. Or you can even dip your brush in the oil a tiny bit then add the color to the brush. I prefer my sticks a tad more on the dry side if I have the choice. You can always add oil, as it's much harder to remove excess oils already in the sticks... These colors are vibrant and rich, and they blend together beautifully. These are very similar to the sticks invented for the great Artist Picasso, by Sennelier, except his at the early times were pastels only, in those days..
