I can't sing the praises enough about using an offset handle especially after having one of those "As seen on TV" Ginsu knives that I used for years. :) This one is SO much better. I love the grippy handle. It feels solid and stable in my hand, and I can make fairly precise cuts through vegetables and meats. But where this knife shines is in making thin cuts through crusty bread. I'm an amateur artisan bread maker and having a knife that easily cuts through crusty bread is essential. And at the price point it's at, I won't feel bad if it gets damaged. I'll just get a new one, though it feels well-built and sturdy enough to last for quite awhile.
