Midori MD Note Horizontal Ruled line

Apica MD notebook lined A5. Size: I have been writing in a journal for a long time. My last - almost filled journal was about the size of a Moleskine Classic about 7.6” x 10” and that sucker was too big. I would be intimidated by the size of the pages: all those empty lines, you know? Sometimes I would just say the hell with it and do something else. I wanted something smaller and after looking around I decided on A5. The Apica fit the bill, and it as a great feature for me. Each page is divided horizontally in the middle by a slightly heavier line. Half an A5 page is not intimidating at all. It is inviting. Binding: I’m cheap so most of my older journals didn’t have the greatest binding. The binding on the Apica is perfect for me. Very, very plain, with just card stock for the covers. The only thing on the cover is embossing about the size of a small postage stamp that says MD Paper Made in Japan. It is not colored and I didn’t see it until the light caught it just right. Inside the cover is a lighter card stock with two blank lines to write whatever you want. The notebook is constructed with a good many signatures. Something that looks like cheese cloth is glued to the covers by about half an inch on one and wraps around the spine. Then it is about the same on the back. It seems very solid. This sucker will stay open on the first page! I think it is a minimalist, clean design. Besides, I had rather they put money into the construction of the notebook rather than PU Leather (smell that?) and fancy lettering on the cover. The pockets and cover will be taken care of the notebook cover just mentioned. Paper: The paper is not smooth like a Rhodia notebook or Tomoe River paper. It has some small amount of resistance. On the plus side it does not bleed through at all, and only has a slight show through with some inks. AND if you have touched it somewhere, your pen will still write on the page. The paper has a slight cream colored tint, and the lines are 7mm and faint. As I mentioned, the center line is bolder, but not bold as such. It really isn’t bold, just slightly darker in color. I love this feature. Writing: I tested a number of fountain pens, some with very wet inks and there is absolutely no bleed through with the inks and pens I tested. I also tested five or six different gel pens, and they all wrote very well with no skipping. Even the skip prone G2 I tried wrote like a champ. One thing thogh. The lines I wrote with a fountain pen are thinner than on any other paper I use. Your medium point becomes finer. The ink is a bit slow to dry, but I can live with that. Over all, I think it is a great notebook for the price. The money went into the binding and paper. I plan to keep buying these.

I purchased this and it has been an outstanding notebook for everyday writing. For fountain pen lovers, this is the kind of paper that immediately stands out. Writing feels smooth, ink flows beautifully, and the pages handle fountain pen ink far better than ordinary notebooks. There is minimal bleed-through, clean lines, and a very satisfying writing experience overall. The horizontal ruled layout is practical and comfortable for journaling, note-taking, work notes, or daily writing. The lines provide guidance without feeling distracting, which keeps the page looking clean and organized. I also appreciate the minimalist Midori design philosophy. It feels elegant, refined, and focused entirely on the writing experience rather than unnecessary extras. This is one of those stationery products that makes you want to write more often simply because it feels so enjoyable to use. Overall, if you love fountain pens or premium paper products, this is an easy recommendation. One of the better notebook options available. Five stars.

I'm on my second Midori MD Notebook (lined) and it's likely not going to be my last. I've gotten heavily into daily journaling, fountain pens and dip pens this year, and I've learned the hard way that not all papers are suitable for fountain pen inks. Midori's paper handles wet ink like a champ, with no feathering or bleed through. Some ghosting, but that's going to happen with darker inks, and I'll gladly accept that anomaly over ink bleeding through. After completing my previous MD Notebook, I became quite fond of the subtle gray line that divides each page. I use it frequently as a guide to more effectively lay out my thoughts on each page. The cream color is easy on the eyes, and doesn't alter the ink colors drastically. I often use a Rhodia dot grid pad for practice and nonsense writing, there isn't much difference in ink color between the bright white Rhodia paper and the Midori cream colored paper. One thing to note, is whatever coating Midori uses in their paper, while great at stopping bleed through, may make certain pen nibs and inks write and lay differently on the paper, for example, both inks I have from Pelikan seem far more light on this paper than my Rhodia. My deduction is that the coating resists the formula Pelikan uses more than other papers. Diamine inks perform beautifully on this paper, as such, I've been purchasing most of my ink choices from the Diamine brand. Hongdian brand ink also performs beautifully on this paper, nice and vibrant with no writing issues. For the price, which is generously low, you're getting a fine notebook for the serious writer. Marty McFly was right ...all the best stuff is made in Japan!

These journals are truly fantastic! I couldn't be happier with them. They lay flat, have wonderful feel, and are so simple. I go to a lot of conferences and always take one of these with me. It's so handy to take notes with during the meetings. I use AI regularly as well, but a journal has improved my life so much! I have one for business, another for language learning notes, and one for jotting down ideas. If you enjoy using journals, these are an excellent choice!

This is a fairly utilitarian notebook without a lot of extra features, although it does have a thin ribbon. The pages are stitched well, and it lies pretty flat. The cover is plain, and although it is somewhat stiff, it is not really sturdy enough for writing without a hard surface to rest on. The paper inside the cover is very nice. It's fairly smooth, although it has a little more tooth than something like Clairefontaine. It is somewhat thin, so there is a bit of ghosting. It's a soft ivory, which cuts down on eye strain but does muddy some of the lighter ink colors. But where it really shines is in showing off shimmer and sheen inks. Even inks with just a little bit of sheen show plenty on this paper. And monster sheeners are pretty much all sheen. I also see much more sparkle with the shimmer inks than I do on most other paper. Those inks are absolutely gorgeous in this notebook.

These are the best notebooks for fountain pens. No feathering, smooth, really shows the ink nicely. You can even put 1 or 2 layers of watercolor on them (although they'll warp a bit). Using these notebooks gives me the same sense of euphoria and enjoyment as a heroin addict plunging the needle. Take the plunge (but with the notebook, not the heroin)

Truly the best notebook you can get. I have tried campus notebooks, multiple spiral notebooks, and none compare to this one. I have used this notebook for Gel pens, highlighters, and fountain pens; and it works great with all of them! I also love that it lays flat. Highly recommend this notebook to anyone looking for one.

Das Notizbuch und ihr Papier motivieren einen einfach zum Schreiben und Umgang mit dem Buch. Das Buch kommt mit Wachspapier umschlagen, wobei es alternativ auch richtige Cover zu kaufen gibt. Das Papier ist cremefarbend, was mir sehr gefällt, allerdings verfälscht es durch die Farbe das Erscheinungsbild der Tinte, also nicht für jeden was. Ich benutze es als Tagebuch, und meine Füllfederhalter gleiten über das Papier. Das Papier ist sehr glatt, was es gegen Öle von der Hand sehr anfällig macht und es sein kann das dort wo die Hand über das Papier ging der Füller "rutscht". Für Tinte allerdings dennoch ein wunderschönes Papier, Sheening und Shading sind super sichtbar, und die Tinte blutet nicht aus bzw. ist auf der Rückseite auch nicht sichtbar. Mit Bleistift oder Gel/Kugelschreiber auch super.

This is beautiful paper that takes ink very well. It is a pleasure to write in with a fountain pen. The darker lines in the middle of the page don't bother me at all. Those lines are intended to give you four quadrants to take your notes in but I just ignore them and keep writing which works just fine. This book is a soft cover in the truest sense. The cover is a heavy stock paper with the MD Paper logo embossed on it, the binding is visible and the green ribbon accents the whole aesthetic very nicely. However, the soft cover means it is *not* a lap friendly notebook. If you are intending to take notes or journal at a desk this is a great book but if you want to take notes at lectures or other scenarios that require the book on your lap you would be better with something hardcover. The book is designed to open flat on a table which is a very nice feature and makes writing even easier. Amazon's shipping methods of tossing items in bubble-wrap bags doesn't do this item any favours. Mine had a little crumpling in the corner of the cover pages. If you want a pristine version you may want to try a brick and mortar shop.
