GPT was used. When inserted into a different enclosure the drive is displayed with the correct partition size. **Q: I have a WD 500gb hd and im wondering what enclosure would fit it. It measures 4in x 5 3/4in.?** A: You have 3.5" HDD (desktop PC). This enclosure designed to fit 2.5" HDD (laptop). Therefore it will not fit your HDD. **Q: Do you need usb 3.0 to use?** A: It uses the type C plug (I think, the USB standards are hard to keep up with!), which can be inserted either "up" or "down", unlike the older style plugs that must be inserted in the correct orientation. My laptop has one of the Type C receptacles and two of the older style receptacles. If your computer doesn't have the Type C receptacle, you can get 'gender adapter' that will allow you to use this device. If you use an Apple device, I'm not sure what kind of problems you might encounter. **Q: Can I use a longer usb cable? Does it have a slot?** A: The usb cable is attached to the unit. So in order to get a longer cable, you'll need a 'active' usb 3.0 extension cable. Opens easily with 6 phillips screws that keep hard shell secured around a pliant rubber gasket/bumper and carrier that cradles the drive. Drive slides into carrier securely. Carrier provides very substantial shock absorption and looks like it should also be well-sealed from moisture (i didn't test but it leaves no doubt). Shell is rigid and strong. Integrated sturdy USB cable stores easily and securely around outer edge of bumper offering further shock absorption for an edge hit. Cable storage provides protection for the USB plug. Installed drive is detected immediately.
