With long pants, they look like boots. You can wear with or without socks & they are pretty awesome. Be aware however, not all the leathers are the same. I first tried the "tooled" version & they were VERY stiff, then I tried the distressed leather & they were stiff as well. I usually wear a size 6-1/2, but I used the size questionnaire on the site which recommended size 7. It fits perfectly. I wear a winter sock (not too, too thick) and it's very comfortable. What prompted me to order this shoe is two-fold: first, I've been wearing to death the plain black version that I bought last year and I needed another shoe to alternate; and second, this one had a great sale price, as did the brown one. I have trouble with shoes and aching feet, so this is a godsend.
