Based solely on my op with the elastic closing strap, it still makes an amazing gift and or for ones own keepsake, as well as a few other ideas..The color of this beauty is, by far the most “eye catching” out of the many other leather journals that I have purchased/returned.. And it absolutely takes the prize as far as the (sideways - style) for writing purposes! I bought it for watercolor sketches. The pages are so cottony. Almost a fabric feel. If you are a heavy watercolor artist, you go lightly on the saturation. It’s leading me to a new technique, which is always good. Change is good! I am such a fan of this manufacturer now. And it came nicely packaged with a heartfelt note. I’m in LOVE. I just like carrying it around!! ### ⭐⭐⭐ Don’t use for watercolor or other wet mediums! *by C***Y on Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2020* I bought this journal to use with watercolor specifically because of the cotton paper. Unfortunately when I tried to use watercolors in it I realized this journal was not suited to the medium. The paper has no sizing so the watercolor is soaked up immediately and the colors are splotchy, dull and bleed through to the other side. Now, if I still want to use the journal for watercolor I need to prime it with watercolor ground which kinda defeats the purpose for me specifically choosing the cotton paper. If you are not using this for watercolor or other wet mediums I would say it’s a great buy! I gave this a 3 star review because I think it would be good for some other uses and the quality seems to be pretty good.
