When the control nut is rotated the three ball bearings move such that the silicon nozzle is squeezed tighter and tighter reducing the inside diameter. The main cause leaking between hose and nozzle is usually a cheap hose with poor quality stamped fittings. Always buy hoses with Solid brass fittings both ends. ALWAYS turn your hose off at the hydrant if you are done. Twist the adjustment collar all the way to closed and no water flows. I have good water pressure but some nozzles restrict the pressure to much. I just bought a rather expensive one from HD thinking it might be better ( I was wrong). While its smoother operating it cuts the pressure dramatically Im going to estimate about 30% over this one. The little big shot is simple strong and cheap compared to others for the performance you get. I will be putting these on all my hoses. If I had to nit pick it I would say it takes more turns than I would like to go from one extreme (fine mist to power blaster mode) but I will happily deal with that for its power output. Spray patterns are all over the place, but it’s assembled in the US and involve disabled workers, which I assume is the case. Great for walking cards, gardening.
