I read this book in 4th grade and rereading it made me break down on every page because of the sheer avalanche of memories and nostalgia that I brought with itself. I laughed with her laughter and cried as she was sent away from her Grandfather and her home. Why does it become classic? Because behind its simplicity, it is a story about human’s relationship with nature. At the age of five, little orphan Heidi is sent to live with her grandfather in the Alps. Everyone in the village is afraid of him, but Heidi is fascinated by his long beard and bushy grey eyebrows. She loves her life in the mountains, playing in the sunshine and growing up amongst the goats and birds. But one day, Heidi is collected by her aunt and is made to live with a new family in town.
