Review: not wat i expected - to start it off i have to say this game isn't anything i thought it would be, it is better i mainly preordered the game because i heard it came with a 20 dollar gift card so if it sucked, i wouldnt have lost much; BUT it turned out to be a great game. i can say for a fact that i hate gta4, despite its high reviews it wasnt that kind of game for me, but this game isnt just gta4 with horsies, it is fun, good looking, great sotry, and multiplayer was better than i expected about the game: graphics: just wonderful; enough said fun: the shooting machanics are nice and fun and the assist aim doesnt super assist so u still to have fun and the guns and dead eye mode and great as well voice acting: it is perfect, im ocd, so wen words r completely off from the lips i can't concentrate well, but rockstar really pulled it off multiplayer: well im rating it on day one and not many ppl are online atm, but it is great already, the free room is truly epic; i basicaly ran around the whole time with m possie and we killed animals, gangs, townspeople, and each other. when you reach certain parts of the map in multi free roam, objectives pop up and they r super fun, they can be hard by urselves but, if u have a possie it is fun to chat and organize and take down npc gangs. now tdm is also in this game, and it is just like any old tdm in a thirdps, but the opening is epic, u start the match off with a mexican stand off and it sets the tone for the game, overall in the first day this game has shine in multiplayer and i cant wait to have more ppl online to play with wat really shocked me was the length of the game, holy **** it is long, it isn't rpg long but it is longer than a normal shooter. i mean comeon 20-40 hours of gameplay for 60 dollars (40 if u preorder and got the 20 dollar gift card =]) with a great multiplayer that will last another 2 months =]; in the game there are so many side quest and things to do u get sidetracked and they are so fun it doesn't even matter. i think if u go thru it is about 20 and with all the extra stuff it is 40. so overall the wow factor really made me like this game. everything about the graphics, gameplay, multi, and story wows me; nothing like wat i expected my only bad comment is that u can;t change controls, and the game forces u to use r2 and l2 for trigger and aim, which isnt bad, but can be bothersome for those use to use l1 and r1, but i admit it is fun using those triggers now and it makes me went to buy those ps3 real r2 and l trigger so my advice, buy this game if u like a shooter with length, story, graphics, the only hate u can have is that u hate horsies and western stuff
Review: Rockstar has a new winner! - Right off the bat, this game is a blast. The single player game has a decent storyline and it is fun to play. They do a good job of easing you into all the skills you will need later on in the game and make it fun. One of the things I enjoy doing a lot that I didn't think I would is hunting. In some areas you can hunt there are animals that can kill you, packs of wolves, Bears, cougars and panthers oh my! Having to keep an eye and an ear out for those animals keeps you from getting complacent in many areas. The Deadeye thing is done very well in my opinion. You slowly ramp up from just slowing things down to being able to mark several targets and then shooting them all. Makes you feel like a badass when you take out 6 bad guys with 6 bullets. Of course if you run out of deadeye when a panther , bear or cougar is coming for you or in the middle of a lot of people shooting at you , it can go very badly for you. Unfortunately Deadeye doesn't really work in Multiplayer which isn't really suprising. (There is a limited form of it when fighting npc's only but not really worth using) There are lots of little minigames in the game as well, you can play poker, liars dice, blackjack, 5 finger fillet, arm wrestling, horseshoes, and I am sure I am leaving some out. The detail in this game is amazing, I don't just mean the graphics either, things like you can identify animals that are nearby by the sounds they make even if you can't see them yet. All kinds of little details that they put in that really up the immersion level. The graphics are amazing, considering how old the xbox platform is I am amazed at the graphics they get into some of these games, although the limited memory does show up in the fact that you see a lot of people who look alike etc... but it is not anything that detracts from the game experience. Multiplayer is fun, you can create a posse (think team), and go after NPC gang hideouts or you can fight other posses or you can play capture the flag type games (you use bags of money instead of a flag). One thing I really would have liked to have seen is the ability to do the single player game cooperatively , there is a coop mission pack coming out but it is not there yet and I don't think you will be able to do the single player game in coop mode. I could go on and on about all the little things you can do (going after bounties, lassoing them from your horse and then hogtying them and racing back to the dropoff for them) The bottom line is this game is very well done and more importantly it is a lot of fun to play. Most of us have seen our share of games with great graphics that are not fun to play. This is not one of those games. I highly recommend this game, even if you have a strict gaming budget.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Next Great Western Epic
*by C***E on January 28, 2011*

I must admit that I didn't think very much of this idea, on paper, when I first heard about it. When I actually got to play the game, though, I was truly blown away. The cinematography is outstanding, cut-scenes are done perfectly with incredible voice acting. Combine that with a classical interpretation of the old west in a beautifully rendered environment that begs to be explored. As I wandered around between missions and tasks to do- I found myself just sitting on my horse, staring out at the world, panning the camera to frame a perfect sunset, followed by making camp and returning into town. (I also discovered that if the controller is left alone for roughly a full minute- the game switches to a first-person panorama shot, that will go on, in real time until you resume playing). What really stole the show, for me, however, is the story in this game. I've always enjoyed the stories in Rockstar's games, but I have never really been invested in their stories before. So-called 'story missions' are usually things to get out of the way to progress and bring new tools and new environments- a few of them standing out in memory by game's end. The stories are what, I believe, make Rockstar's games truly Mature games, intended for adults- because adults are the only ones expected to understand and comprehend the emotions, complexities and themes. In Red Dead Redemption, you play as John Marston; a man with a past. Ordinarily, this is nothing novel when it comes to video game stories. Here, though, there is no back story to read or one, long piece of back-story that gets everything out of the way. Instead, the entire history and character of John Marston is something that the player learns and understands through playing the entire game, itself. A very common story mechanic for Rockstar when it comes to their stories- here it's done perfectly. Everything you learn about his past, his old life running with a gang of bandits, down to his family and other missing pieces is told through well-written, believable dialog delivered by some amazing voice actors. The basic story structure when the game begins, is quite simple. John Marston was a criminal- an outlaw; he used to be part of a gang of bandits, though federal agents have taken his family and given him a mission to complete before he can see his family again. The mission is simple, hunt down his former brothers-in-arms, particularly a man named Bill Williamson and his family goes free. To accomplish this seemingly simple task, John will word with and meet a colorful cast of truly interesting characters- work with lawmen, help a snake oil charlatan, help a ranch in trouble and even lead him to Mexico to take part in a revolution. More than this, I dare not say about the story. Play the game for yourself, you will not be disappointed. Gameplay at first might seem a little clunky and taking some used to. For instance, moving the left control stick moves the player, as expected, though at a slow walking pace. To run faster, the player must hold down the A/X button (x360/ps3 respectively) and rapidly tap it to sprint. At first it can seem cumbersome, but adaption is fairly quick. This same issue can be said for riding horses. I grew up watching westerns, both new and classic. Though I can honestly recommend this to anyone who likes great stories, brilliant characters and intuitive gameplay. Red Dead Redemption is a one of those rare games that really exemplifies how the gaming medium can deliver an experience unlike any other form of entertainment. A game to play and really cherish.
