Starrett Student Combination Square - Ideal for Youngsters and Apprentices - 6" Blade Length, Cast Iron Head, Hardened and Tempered Square Blade, 4R Graduation - 10H-6-4R

This small combo square is perfect for my purposes for woodworking. I already have a 12-inch Starrett combination set along with calipers, dividers, rules, dial indicators, and other tools. High quality and accurate. I'm an engineer by training and I've never been disappointed in any Starrett tool.

It is square! Not all squares are actually square! This one is very accurate, precision made. Yes, it is expensive. But quality frequently is. I will be buying the 12 in Starrett in the near future to match up.

Bought the Igauging squares a while back, but already owned 3 33 series Starrett squares (4 piece, 12”, and 6”) and was never quite satisfied with the quality of the Igauging compared to the Starrett. I bought this Starrett student combo square to carry in nail apron. I never use the level or scribe anyway. The 10H-6-4R arrived in Starrett packaging taped and sealed. It also checks for accuracy. Don’t know how the regular vs satin chrome will work out but I’m going to try it out.

What can I say, other than its a Starrett.This is one of those products where I can't just say one thing is better than other brands product the whole experience for me is Starrett is just really good and works as it is intended every time, they also feel right, whatever that means.This is one that is worth the few extra dollars and unless I lose it I should never have to buy another one in my life.

My main reason for buying this square is because my old one wouldn’t lock properly so I decided to invest in a higher end product. This square actually is a big improvement over my old one so I’m glad I spent the money.

Hands down this is the very best quality American made combination square that money can buy! I use this more than I ever thought I would in my shop!

Started rusting within a day of receiving. After a few days it was unreadable

The quality of the item I’ve got was poorly checked and I doubt that this was from US. The shoulder and the anvil all had sharp edges and I had it removed after few passes of sand paper. Second, the milling burr on the rail that guides the ruler protrudes to the anvil which catches with the work piece – see attached image. This was quite frustrating. I try to break it by hand using a center punch; w/o using a hammer but it’s quite hard. So I decided to carefully sand the anvil in a glass plate. After few passes, I realized that the anvil was not that dead flat which then prompted me to check squareness of the tool with the ruler fully extended using my engineering square. It was just a little bit way out of square, which is to me, acceptable for woodworking. After 20 mins of slowly flattening the anvil, the burr was gone, anvil was flat, and tool was dead square in ref. to my engineering square. Problem solved. Third, the adjustable knob was not that smooth when locking the ruler as compared to my old 12 inch Stanley. But for now it firmly holds the ruler quite well. But I suspect after long period of use, this will deteriorate and will start to lose its grip to the ruler. But that remains to be proven.I purchase this item because of good quality expectation. It has to be flawless out from the box.
