What is the mini shovel for?

To dig a mini hole, of course. Seriously, though, if you are trying to insert your trap into a heavily rooted material, some times you need to make a cut or slice just to inset the point.

How long will the traps last?

It depends on how many insects it catches.I used these for 3 weeks, these traps were covered with fruit flies.I have to replace them.

Where can we buy refills for the sticky part? (I want to avoid buying the whole pack every time since the sticks can be reused).

Hi buyer,We apologize as the sticky part are is not available for purchase separately. However, you can buy these bigger sticky traps and you can cut the size what you need. https://amzn.to/2USF6Ww

What are they made out of—Paper or plastic?

I think that they are made out of paper with a plastic coating. They work really well to catch whiteflies and those fungus gnats.
