Swapped out the old key blade to this unit. Immobilizer chip compartment only has three sides, so could move if not glued in. No gasket on battery compartment section, but worked perfectly. Original style emblem is a great plus.

Very Happy ! I have no problem(s) with this item at all. I did not bother with getting the new key fob cut. You shouldn't either if a new fob is not needed. Transfer the old fob (cut key portion) onto the new case. Open old main body and take out the circuit board and "snap" it into place. Take out the VW Logo Sticker (it is where the battery lives) and put in a new battery while you are there. I had a fully functioning remote/key in 5 minutes. I had lost some of the functions on my remote due to the key wearing out. You will have difficulty finding a locksmith to cut new key and transfer transponder over. If your physical key still works then let it be and transfer that portion to new assembled key/remote !!!! Keep ALL your old parts BTW !!!!

I ordered this to replace my daughter's key fob for her 2002 Beetle. The quality of the new housing is very good and she is quite happy. There was definitely some issues with getting it all out together though (aside from my own difficulties). It comes with a small screwdriver to take apart the key section- the screwdriver tip is too small for the screw and it won't loosen it. Thankfully I have a tiny screwdriver kit so I got it off, but if you don't have one you may have an issue. The biggest issue is that the spot for the chip in the old key fob is not the same size as the new fob- the new fob is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller, so I had to use a knife and razor blade to chisel out the plastic soni could fit it in, and then a small piece of duct tape to keep it in. Some tips- the spring for the switchblade key has a spot on each end that it catches into a groove. Make sure you get them in there (when you look at them you'll see what I mean, its not difficult), and, heres the part it took me a LONG time to figure out, you have to spin the key and basically unwind the spring about two spins, to get it to pop open when you push the button. Don't screw it back together until you test it. And be careful when you first open it because things fly everywhere!

My old key fob worked fine prior to changing the case. Battery connection terminals are junk. I work as an electronic repair tech for a living. This thing is complete trash. The metal used for the battery connection to the circuit board is weak and flimsy. My remote worked once. After that, never worked again. After 10+ times of adjusting the battery contacts over and over because they just weren't making a good contact. The case doesn't snap together real solid so now, its super loose because of all the adjusting and it still doesn't work properly.

The panic button on my OEM Fob tore, exposing the internals. I bought this case which is very inexensive, and very reasonably priced. After swapping the blade, my key 'drags' and doesn't spring open as neatly as it used to. Minus 1 star for lack of instructions, 1 for the way the key fits. Otherwise feels solid and keeps my key handy. Car and electronics are working as expected. --- The case has two halves- the key half, and the electronics half. Unfortunately for me, the "key half" on my OEM would not fit on the electronics half of the new fob- so I had to swap the blade over. The glass-RFID Chip is CRITICAL to this operation- mine was not glued into the OEM key and had fallen onto the ground. I didn't even realize it was there until my car kept shutting off immediately after starting, due to a missing security chip. Instructions on: What the RFID tag looks like and how to swap it How to cut the sonic welds on the electronics board and swap them How to properly disassemble and re-assemble the key side and spring Would have gone a long way. if I knew what I was getting into, I'd have created a video to document it.

Its very easy to install the components of the last key and it's very good product for the price I paid!

The key was perfect, haven’t got it cut yet but there shouldn’t be a problem with it. I don’t see anything wrong with it and I have no complaints. Very satisfied.

I am very happy with the product. My old key worked fine but the key cracked from the base. I use the shell to move the circuit AND the chip, then I took it to make the copy of the key and it all worked perfectly. The plastic is 1st class material. It has rubber sealing the edges and all fits perfectly. I only have one "old key" otherwise I would buy another one.

Bought 2 and they did not come with the blade or spring/roll pin to hold in the blade. All I wanted was the metal piece the blade fit's into. I used a 1/16" cotter pin instead of a spring/roll pin.

Really good quality key. Feels great in the hands and beautiful. I was very impressed. Doesn't happen often with online purchases lol. The screw driver is junk though. That screw is super tight and a PH1 i beleive. And they sent a small flat heat that the hand snapped on me and didnt even budge the screw. But I got but for that.
