## Description

Product description Why buy Blackout Cloth? ..... Buy Blackout Cloth for an entry-level, budget-friendly DIY projector screen! About Carl’s Blackout Cloth Projection Screen Material Blackout Cloth Projector Screen Material is a budget-friendly, do-it-yourself screen building favorite! This front projection blackout fabric surface is the entry-level standard to which all other screen surfaces are compared. Blackout Cloth's matte white surface and gain of 1.0 diffuse light in all directions so the image can be seen from any angle. Blackout Cloth material is 70% polyester, 30% cotton blend fabric that is coated with multiple layers of thin rubber and is 110" wide. It is suitable for use in a variety of settings with accurate color and clarity in a dark viewing environment where ambient light is controlled. Blackout Cloth screen material is extremely sturdy and is best for a wooden fixed frame where it will be pulled tight and evenly in all four directions (like an artist canvas). Blackout Cloth is perfect for a budget-friendly DIY projector screen It is the entry-level front projection standard to which all other screen surfaces are compared Offers a matte white surface with a gain of 1.0 so the image can be seen from any angle Provides accurate color and clarity in a dark environment where ambient light is controlled Tension-mount for best results (pulled tight and evenly in all four directions like an artist canvas) Best for an indoor, fixed frame application (Not mildew resistant) Compatible with standard or short throw projectors Works best when the minimum throw distance is 0.2 times the width of the image 1800 Minimum Lumens Recommended Blackout Cloth Tips The smooth texture side, of Blackout Cloth, with a rubber coating faces the audience If you want make a projector screen by wrapping the material over the frame, and stapling on the back, you may need to order extra material to cover the thickness of your frame View our Technical Specification documents [PDFs] below for additional information including our installation guide, comparison chart and specification sheet Not acoustically transparent Not suitable for rear projection Not suitable for wall mounts Not recommended for roll down applications When a screen is pulled tight evenly all the way around the screen we call this tensioned. Tensioning provides a flat screen for even light distribution. Securing tension-mounted screens at just the top and bottom, just the sides or only in the corners will not provide a flat surface for even light distribution. If you choose not to tension-mount Blackout Cloth you are likely to see waves or ripples in your image.

Review: Where price meets quality meets a need for planning - Simply a great projector screen. HUGE! I have a large room bigger than an average apartment living room and my Optoma HD141X sitting about 30ft. back can only fill about 80% of this screen. This is a DoItYourself kind of screen which saves you so much money over cheap, limited pre-crafted screens on their own mounts and such. Some of the cheapest roll-up screens (roll up like window blinds) are $200 so you could buy 4 of these screens and still come par with the price and surpass the quality. PROS - 1.0 gain for perfect reflection - 16:9 (so many are still 4:3) - HUGE, HUGE - Price - High quality, darn near perfect quality of the special reflective coating over the cloth CONS - Cloth they choose to use to coat in their special reflective coating is INSANELY easy to wrinkle. Even when you unroll it and staple it onto the wall/frame immediately, just holding the corners makes this thing wrinkle - Ironing the back does not remove wrinkles effectively or at all - Hanging the screen does not remove wrinkles over time. I had to fly out of state so I folded my 1st Carl's screen and after ironing it for 2 hours plus letting it hang on the frame for 30 days the wrinkles were barely lessened at all even after stretching over and over. - Rips easier than a fart - Heavier than it seems. You need to hang this properly or else its weight will crinkle corners where nails/staples are and worsen over time. Wood is definitely required for support like a picture frame. The cons are to be expected to a degree but a thicker cloth would have been appreciated to at least help prevent rips and sagging over time. Overall, this is still one of (if not) the best DIY projector screen on the market for its price and quality.
Review: Great product at a great price! - Paid the extra $10 and ordered the rolled version to eliminate the hassle of dealing with creases. Product came rolled as ordered with no creases and size was bang on to the stated measurements. The directions to build the screen on Carl's sight were very helpful, although I deviated slightly. Watched my first movie last night and it was amazing. Picture looked bright and eye popping. Because I'm from Canada, the converted price was almost $65 CAD ($50 US) but well worth it. Up North here fixed 120 inch screens aren't cheap. So, this cloth along with Carl's black felt was a great deal compared to buying a fixed screen. Given that my BenQ W1070 was only $900, it didn't make sense to me to spend $500 or more just for a screen. Overall, I'm very impressed with the final product. The black felt adds a nice touch of elegance.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great way to get the most from an HD Projector
*by I***N on December 9, 2014*

My son and I built a 115" screen for our home theater for under $75! We built a simple frame with 1x4s and then stapled the screen to the frame. We stapled it following a progressively shorter distance between the staples, starting at 12", down to 2", pulling the screen tight along the way. The screen is perfectly flat and even. I highly recommend receiving it rolled as it was clean, free of creases, and easy to layout. The screen works beautifully in a very dark room. I considered going with a higher gain, but it wasn't necessary. It's primary use is for an XBox 360 and the games look absolutely amazing.
