We started out at the 2nd grade level and worked him up to 4th grade. Now he often looks at something and on his own simply says "oh I'm sure this happened because of such n such", and he's usually pretty dead on. This definitely helps kids/students piece together what they're looking at and how it came to be which also helps with accountability for themselves and how they affect a situation. I have bought three years worth of these books because even at the second grade level, my son advanced so much, and I will buy again each grade as needed. Highly recommend.
