Review: Wish I had this decades ago - *** 2025 Update at the end*** *** Not a Paid Review *** Note: I've only had a chance to 'test' it, but feel I've done so enough to keep the device. I meant to pick this up while it was being demoed at Lowes this season, but my project wasn't quite ready to prep for at the time. Now they're only available from AMZ and direct I believe. I've a few 'normal' stud finders and none of them were giving me any usable feedback with my walls (1980s, Florida prefab, likely metal studs, god awful popcorn crap on EVERYTHING). I have a habit of thinking of solutions before they exist and was happy to come across this particular concept IRL for once. The idea is sound (well, light actually) and makes sense on how it should work with minimal accuracy issues. I especially like the idea of it being app supported because that means new features will more likely be software based than hardware. TBH, I'd rathered this been a BT based device, but given that they've provided the OTG cable in the box, I'm happy with that. Others have gone over the features and methods pretty well, but I've decided to stick to my situation as officially it's not supported. So in case someone Else has what I have or similar enough to matter, here's what I've worked out. Firstly, so long as it's on sale, buy this Directly from the MFG! I could have saved like $15 if I'd gone to their site first. Had I done that, then the round of accessories I purchased would have made up for the savings. I purchased the combo set of the Plus edition on here that came with the semi-rugged case and a few extra supplies. I then went to the MFG's site (care of the in-app ads!) and grabbed the full accessory kit plus the plastic mount kit. I'd almost bought the hard shell that's on here, but now I'm glad I didn't as it wouldn't have been as nice a storage configuration as this kit is (stuff would be all over the case or not enough room). I can snuggly fit most of the extras in the case, but I've opted to leave half of the dozen or so discs in the device's original packaging (along with the extra cables and manual). I'm currently using this with an LG G7 ThinQ phone that officially isn't supported by the plastic mount. The popcorn walls also aren't officially supported as the device Will bounce, causing inaccuracies. But being me I "found a way" that isn't too MacGyverish, nor ugly looking. With the kits come these large plastic covers that are intended to serve as an anti-scratch layer for the walls (I think). According to the instructions, you're not Supposed to use them with the Plus device as it is designed a little different from the base model. I've placed one of these on the wall facing side and while it doesn't exactly want to stay put for long periods (it gets air under the adhesive side), it should help keep the device itself cleaner as well as allow for a smoother glide across the wall (as opposed to hopping ever other inch). Also included in the kits are the discs that have adhesive on both sides (mount the phone to the device). I don't plan on rinsing them or whatever, so I bought a bunch as I'm betting they'll get dirty pretty quick if there's enough dust in the environment. They work ok to keep the phone attached to the device, but I found it still rather tricky to keep everything aligned. It was this that led me to get the plastic grips as those plus the discs should equal a rigid structure. To keep track of which one I've used, I decided to leave it attached to the device and put one of the plastic films back on the phone side. Note: Due to how these are made, they will more than likely leave an oily outline on whatever they're attached to when removed. I figured on this and chose to keep my (very thin) rubber case on the phone (even before deciding on the plastic mounts) as I don't care if it gets marked and it'll be easier to clean than the phone. This later became the best option when I went to test the plastic mounts. The plastic mounts come with two sizes and my phone (out of case) is sort of the monkey in the middle fit wise. This is likely why they've said it's not compatible, physically speaking. With the case, however, the largest adaptor is actually slightly too small. It could use another say 3 mm diameter on the phone side to allow for a fit that won't make me check for cracking. As is though, once you snap everything in, it's good and snug. See the pics for references of what's described above. Phone Case: https://www.desertcart.com/gp/product/B07C222CC4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 *** 2025 Update *** So I guess I've had this about 5 years now and aside from wanting to get the revised version with Bluetooth, I really don't have anything bad to say about it. The connectivity issues most people have likely stem from not knowing that you have to go into the device settings (possibly the debugging mode) and tell it how you want to use the connection. I've never had connectivity issues and I have paired it with 3 different devices up to and including my latest OP 10 Pro. The only consistent gripe is that you have to calibrate for new walls if you want it to be super accurate, but I get it from a technical standpoint. Once you spin it a couple of times, then all is well. I can't understate how helpful the phone mount is though as having to only hold onto One mass of things is much easier than trying to hold both in place on your own.
Review: This really works, hard to believe but it works. - This really works, hard to believe but it works. So no stud finder out there works, people might say they do but they DON'T! This Walabot does work, it's always correct. It always finds the center of the stud and I put the screw in the wall and I hit the stud. Worth every penny I paid. Takes some getting used to but once you figure it out it'll be easy to use.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fine tool

I really like the tool. Very easy to use. One small drawback for me is the constant set up every time. But all in all it was well worth the money.
