Low maintenance, most reliable pump sprayer I have experience with...
I've owned a number of pump sprayers over the years. This model (I have two) has proven over almost 4yrs to be 100% reliable and has required no maintenance/repair aside from a flush with soapy water followed by plain water to rinse. I usually fill with about quart of soapy water, pressurize, spray until empty. This followed by the same with plain water to flush out the soapy water and then rinse the tank. I use them exclusively for a bifenthrin product. Other products may be more prone to leaving residue. Care and cleaning may be required at a higher rate depending on what they're used for. NOT FOR BLEACH AND ACIDIC PRODUCTS. Smith sells other models specifically for use with those products. Bleach and acidic products (ie. vinegar) will damage seals and other parts not designed for this purpose. If a reviewer mentions leaks, important to know what products they used. It has a dedicated purge relief valve. Not all pump sprayers have one. It's a flared design. With a simple pull it releases the pressure and then snaps back into place. Highly ergonomic and fool proof. Another sprayer I owned had a dial-type valve that always left some doubt about if it was open or closed and was harder to use while wearing gloves. Because you should store pump sprayers unpressurized, a purge relief valve makes doing so quick, easy and will prevent you from being sprayed when removing the pump mechanism. According to Smith, it will limit pressurization to 60psi. Safety feature I guess or perhaps something to prevent damage to the sprayer. ` The hoses have proven to be reliable. No leaks or cracks and they've stood up to pressurization well. Same with the pump mechanism, 100% reliable. Smith prominently advertises the use of Viton gaskets and seals. This is a strong indicator that Smith takes reliability and performance seriously. Viton gaskets are used in everything from this pump sprayer to aerospace products, a company that knows it's business. Smith could probably trim some cost from this sprayer by using lowest bidder products but doesn't and that's a good thing. The tank is a thick heavy duty chem resistant plastic. It's pear shaped which increases stability when standing in place, filling it. The bottom of the tank has a protective black stand/covering with an integral cup for the spray nozzle when stowing the spray wand. The stand will also help protect the tank from impact and abrasion damage, probably will help maximize service life. It ships with a variety of nozzles - foaming, wide and narrow sprays, volumetric dispense rates, etc. I've found that the variable rate nozzle that ships attached to the wand works well but for the Bifenthrin product I use, I prefer the fixed-rate red nozzle with a wide and even fan spray. It works best for what I need it for, reduces the time needed to apply the product. Definitely check out Smith's website. Replacement parts, nozzle kits, a cordless electric pump kit that can be retrofitted to some of their hand pump models, etc. There are also third party nozzle options available in Amazon. Two minor gripes barely worth mentioning: 1) It's hard to see the fill markings molded into the tank. It would be great if they shipped with high visibility markings. I took care of this with red permanent marker rated for outdoor use. 2) There isn't a stress relief on the hose where it exits the sprayer. Not an issue when using the sprayer but when stored, it tends to kink. After almost 4yrs, this hasn't resulted in a hose failure but just the same, a stress relief would be confidence inspiring. Bottom line: Serious product, highly recommended.

Excellent sprayer. Highly recommended over the 1 gallon version.
I had a 1 gallon sprayer I was using for bug spray for the last couple years. It worked fine but I had to fill it three times to cover my 1/2 acre lot. I decided to get a 3 gallon sprayer and I'm really glad I did. Pros: - Wide variety of heads. I'm using a nice metal head that allows you to twist it to go from a wide spray to a very concentrated one. There are 3 or 4 other heads that come with the sprayer for different applications. - 3 Gallon Capacity. I've cut my spraying time down by about 30 minutes. - Very sturdy, high quality build. - Comes with a shoulder strap or you can hold onto the handle. - The wand is really long, this let's me get the poison exactly where I want to put it. - Putting it together was really easy. Cons: - When full it's really heavy. Even with the shoulder strap this is going to hurt your shoulders and you'll have to put it down every once in a while. I'm a big guy. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that's not in reasonable shape. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. The only improvement I could hope for is a more padded, comfortable shoulder strap. It's cut down my spraying time significantly which means spraying my yard is now a 30 minute task instead of taking well over an hour. My wife is happy that she gets the time back with me and I don't dread going out to spray like I used to.

better built than the other spray tanks
I got tired of buying the cheap Chinese made spray tanks with nothing but endless problems. I splurged and bought the more expensive American made Smith contractor tank and what an improvement in quality, performance, and ease of use. Good tools make the work easier and the time saved plus the sprayer works so much better justifies the higher price. I'm very pleased with this tank. I'm 85 years old and I've owned a lot of spray tanks. This is by far the best one I have owned.

A good sprayer that could be better
This is a nice sprayer. I've sprayed about 6 tankfuls through it, and it worked fine the whole time. I like the heavy duty plastic construction - this will last a real long time in house and garden use. I don't know about the "contractor" part of the name; while it's fine for home use, it probably wouldn't survive a week rattling around in the back of a pickup. Is it the perfect home sprayer? Well, no. The conical shape is interesting, and gives a nice wide base that doesn't tip over easily. But it also reduces the air space at the top when the sprayer is full of liquid. You pump it up, spray for about 30 seconds (nozzle wide open - I was spraying bleach to get mold off the house), then you have to stop and pump it up again because you've used up that tiny volume of compressed air. After another 90 seconds or so of spraying, you have to stop and pump it up yet again. This gets old pretty quickly when you're going through many tankfuls of whatever you're spraying. And I *was* pumping it up all the way, I blew the pressure relief valve once. If the tank were the same height and diameter, but cylindrical instead of conical, this problem would be greatly reduced. If I were to be really picky, I'd add that the pump shaft looks a little small in diameter. Nothing went wrong, nothing broke, but I was conscious of that skinny little shaft, and careful to pump exactly straight up and down. Maybe it'll last forever, but it's not confidence inspiring. What do I like about this sprayer? Quite a lot actually. It doesn't leak. The plastic parts, which is nearly everything, are nice and heavy and don't flex or seem flimsy in any way. The 18" wand feels exactly right, and the shut-off switch is very positive. The adjustable brass nozzle, the only one I've tried so far, worked perfectly. I got everything from a tight stream for reaching 2nd story walls (just barely, right after a good pumping up) to a spray for decks. Although I tightened the top very securely every time I refilled it, it was never hard to open it up again. The shoulder strap is a nice idea, but as often as you have to stop and pump up, it might be more trouble to use than it's worth. I did use it, and got tired of constantly taking it off and putting it back on. Let's say I'm neutral on the shoulder strap. So to sum up, I like this sprayer a lot, but I think it would be even better with a cylindrical tank to give a bigger air volume, and a larger diameter pump rod, even if only for peace of mind. Would I buy another one? No. I'd buy Smith's 3-gallon version of this sprayer but only put two gallons in it. That would give me a bigger compressed air space above the liquid, and almost no more weight to carry. A full 2-gallon load is about all I want hanging from that shoulder strap.

I Should Have Bought This Long Ago
Much Better Than Big Box Options I've used pump sprayers for years (I'm 66). I use them primarily for week killer, although I've also used them for deck wash solution as well and I've also used them to apply Wet and Forget mold and mildew killer. I don't just use them for weed killer around my house. I'm responsible for keeping the weeds down around the fence line surrounding our 1-acre community garden. In the past I've used big box sprayers which I've replaced the spray wands on with higher quality wands/nozzles. That is the bare minimum if you want a quality sprayer. This time I bought a quality pump sprayer. What a difference! The pump sprayer holds its pressure, the hose to the wand is larger diameter and higher quality. The wand itself is of better quality and the nozzle functions very well for a controlled spray pattern. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I should have bought this long ago.

The best sprayer I've used bar none
I've used (and discarded) a number of sprayers over the years. I started with the dirt cheap ones, and they tended to last about a season or two at best even when well cared for. They didn't work well even when they did work, however. So, I upgraded to the "better" ones at the big box stores. Those lasted longer, but still didn't function all that well. So I thought I'd step up to the DB Smith "Professional" model, having read the good reviews. I am just floored by how well this is put together! All the parts and pieces are sturdy; the pump action is smooth; and everything works perfectly. It also has a number of convenience features such as a clip to hold the spray wand in storage, and a cap at the base that catches any dribbles from the nozzle when it's not in use. The control lever is comfortable to use and has an on latch that flips on or off easily. It has a pressure release knob to quickly bleed off the pressure after you're done. It comes with a shoulder strap, and the main body is translucent so you can see the fluid level easily. It comes with a collection of tips including a foaming nozzle, a fan nozzle, and an adjustable cone nozzle. The manual is nicely detailed with tips and photos on maintenance. Icing on the cake: it's made in the USA. They make a similar model called the "O" style which has straight sides to the tank. This model (they call it the "R" style) is teardrop shaped. It offers more stability since it has a lower center of gravity, plus it has the cap at the base I mentioned earlier, which the O style lacks. But, according to the manual, the guts are the same for both styles. The only difference is the shape. I can't speak to the longevity of this since I've only used it a few times, but it seems like I'll be able to get several years out of it. I'll update the review as needed should problems occur. They also make a 3 gal. version. I went with the 2 gal one since I already have a 3 gal sprayer that is working well. But, should that die on me, I'll certainly replace it with another DB Smith. Highly recommend! UPDATE June 2017: Still going strong. Zero problems and everything (including the seals) has held up very well.

Durability, holds tank pressure, & east to clean
I love this 2 gallon, commercial grade hand pump sprayer. I use it to mainly spray cracks/crevices in the concrete or asphalt pavement with post emergent and pre emergent herbicides (weed killers). After cleaning out the tank and spray wand per the instructions 3 times with clean water, I also use the tank sprayer to spray insecticide on my fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental plants in my garden. As always, I clean out the tank sprayer and spray wand per the written instructions. Compared to the retail market (Home Depot & Lowe's Hardware) tank sprayers, this commercial grade tank sprayer is well worth the purchase/investment. I love this tank sprayer because of its durability, ease of use cleaning out, pressure relief valve to release the pressure for cleaning the tank, it comes with different sprayer nozzles, and this company carries replacement parts if needed. That's why I purchased this tanker sprayer thru Amazon.

Great Sprayer
My attempt to replace an old sprayer with the same make was unsuccessful. I tried a few others before finding this Smith sprayer. I have used this sprayer about 10 times and really like it. I have used it with thin and thicker solutions (weed killer and the thicker rabbit repellent). The sprayer works great! Both the hose and the wand are sufficiently long enough that the tank can sit on the ground and the plants can be easily reached. It comes with some sort of shoulder strap but I haven’t used that. It comes with different attachments for different spray patterns but I have only used the adjustable one which is sufficient for my use. Seems to be very well made. Looks to be easy to disassemble if needed for occasional cleaning. Instructions were very clear. Also made in USA.

Heavy duty construction with a great nozzle
This sprayer comes with a number of sprat nozzles but I just used the brass one. Easy to adjust the volume/ strength of the spray. Keeps pressure for a long time. The shoulder strap makes it so much easier to carry.

Fantastic tool for both professionals and DIYers. It’s well-built with durable materials and is easy to use for extended periods. The adjustable nozzle offers precise control, and the smooth pump action ensures consistent coverage. The large tank capacity is a great time-saver, reducing the need for frequent refills. Overall, this sprayer is reliable, efficient, and worth every penny. Highly recommended!

Great for its price!
I’ve been using mine for just about 3 months now and I’ve yet to encounter an actual issue. Worst thing I though was when it first arrived the plastic seams inside had plastic flakes coming off but easy fix!
