So many uses! Fantastic product
I had previously purchased an indoor remote to control a lamp from across the room when I was in bed. This one works the same way, could easily be used indoors, but stands up to outdoor weather. You plug the pronged plug into an outlet and then anything you plug into the device can be controlled with a remote (with a very long reach). Has an on and off button. Bulb on remote lights up briefly when buttons are pushed. OUTDOOR DECOR: This outdoor one has come in very handy for cafe lights I have outside. Our outdoor socket is very high off the ground, essentially right up against the roof on the outside wall of our house. It takes a ladder to reach it. I plugged this into the high socket and plugged my strand lights into the device. Now, whenever I want the cafe light ambiance, I click the "on" button on the remote. PETS & PESTS: We have a very large back yard and only one back porch light, so once I had the strand lights in place, I was able to light up the back yard whenever I let my dogs out at night. Because they are small and we have a lot of wild animals around (including skunks), it is nice to be able to light up my yard with the touch of a button (and without the permanent installation of lighting). This device even works from inside the house! I can be sitting on my couch inside the living room and turn on and off the outdoor lighting. For people with gardens and deer who like to pay their gardens a visit; plug a small radio into this device outside. When you're inside at night you can click the button and have the radio turn on to shoo the deer out of the yard. HOME SAFETY: This is great for safety. If someone were to be in my yard, I could light it up without coming to the wall to flip a switch. HOLIDAY DECOR: It's also great for holiday decorations. When you don't want to be stuck with the settings of a timer and you don't want to go out in the cold to plug in lighting, you can use this little remote to turn on and off holiday decor/lighting from inside the house. HALLOWEEN/PRANKS: Because this can be plugged in anywhere, it can be used to set scary moods and pull off pranks. Lights, tvs, halloween figures, can be turned on and off from a distance (hiding place). SURPRISE PARTIES: Set up festive lights, music, etc. on one remote. As you walk your "surprise party victim" up to the house, you can click on the lights yourself using the remote in a pocket or purse, simultaneously indicating to everyone to say "surprise". SPACE HEATERS/FANS: Instead of getting up out of bed or from a desk to turn on and off a fan or space heater, use the remote. Stay in the warmth of the bed and be able to turn off heat before the room gets too warm. LIGHTS WITH SWITCHES ON THE CORD: I have wall lights/sconces with switches on the cords. The cords run down the wall behind several living room chairs. Instead of having to lean over the chairs, I can use the remote to turn the lights on and off. You can also use this idea to turn on and off an electric strip (although I wouldn't plug in devices that require too much power). This way you can turn on multiple lamps at once to achieve softer lighting than flipping on a main switch to overhead lighting. Anything you can plug in, can be controlled via remote. This device worked so perfectly for my needs and is so easy and reliable that I will undoubtedly buy several more.

Wish I could order specific Channels
I ordered several different brands of remote control switches like this one, in the same price range, but this unit stands out from the others! We live in a rather remote area, and we have a pretty extensive security system that includes 16 IR Color Cameras. The cameras are of such quality that their pictures at night are almost as clear as during the day. Having this system, we've found that it's usually better for us to have NO visible lights on outside at night... Up here, "lights" would just help a thief find his way around easier. Without external visible lights, we can see anything moving around outside, while anyone outside stumbles around in total darkness, believing that they're "Hidden" in the darkness. They aren't "hidden" at all. That's also where this Remote Control Switch comes into play here... Usually there's no need to have on all of the outdoor IR Floodlights since even the light from a crescent moon is plenty for our Low-Lux Cameras... but there ARE times when you want to really "light things up" outside, and this remote switch does an EXCELLENT job for that! I've seen complaints about "poor distances" in other reviews, as well as people saying they get far greater ranges than advertised. "Poor distance ranges" are often a case of built-in filters doing their job and filtering out nearby stray signals when it comes to "Matched Units" like these. You don't want your switches constantly being turned on and off by a neighbor's baby monitor or something. When there are no competing signals that need to be filtered, the ranges can really open up! For example, from my home office in the back part of our house, the signal from the Key-chain remote must pass through three walls, travel exactly 82 feet, and then penetrate the wall of a work-shop outside to turn on several IR Spotlights mounted under the eaves of the work-shop! It does this easily here! A similar unit made by a different manufacturer ("Skylink") hangs right beside this "Woods" unit out in the Work-Shop, attached to a 500 Watt Halogen Floodlight that is used to light up part of the Pasture where our horses are. Sometimes I have to kinda wave that unit's Remote Control around in the air to make the Halogen lights turn on, or off, which is why I came over here to see if I could find another Woods Unit on Channel B or C... but I don't see an option to order specific channels with the Woods units like there is with the other types I bought. On some of our more expensive Remote Switches you can set the channel yourself inside the units, but I don't think that's the case with these less expensive models. Still, this Woods Switch has been fantastic so far, especially considering the price! I also use a similar type remote Switch to turn off my office equipment. When I finish working there are some things that need to be left on (Computers, etc), but the Bose Sound System, printers, scanners, Flat-Screen monitors, etc, etc, can all be turned off with one remote control switch laying on my desk, saving me from having to turn off that stuff individually when done for the day! I just plug a power strip into the remote receiver unit, and plug the equipment that can be turned off into that strip (Watch the total wattage!)... it works really well, and saves me a lot of time and trouble, as well as easing the draw from the Battery Banks at night once the sun is off the Solar Panels! There are LOTS of uses for these remote switches!

Automatic sensor works great
Works great, set it up to light up from dusk to dawn. Automatically turns on at dusk and then turns off as soon as it becomes daylight. Has multiple options that you can select from. Really like the option that allows you to manually turn it on in the daytime, to see which of the light bulbs in the long string of lights need replacement.

Works Very Good!!! Here is Some New Info!
I just purchased this remote switch and it seems to work fine! I picked this switch because of all the GREAT reviews! I tested it for distance and it worked at a distance of about 70 Feet. That was a clear line of sight but the reciever was inside the house at 2 feet off the floor and 6 feet in from the window and about 2 feet to the left of the window. I was pointing it at a angle from my driveway. It was not a straight shot to the reciever. There is another window on the other side of the house that was 1 foot away from it but the signal would have to go around or through the house to get to the switch. So i think it works pretty good! If i would of had the switch outside and pointed the remote through the closed window i would think it would of got more range yet. The battery is a 12 volt A123 i believe? it says A23? These batterys have lasted a long time for me in a remote control for onother item i have. like 4 years but not used every day. I checked the battery and it had 12.77 volts. So it was at full power. My remote is not the same as in the photo. I think my remote is smaller and it has the 2 buttons over and under on it but it has on and off engraved into the buttons which is good [Better than on off stickers.] My remote is 2 1/2 by 1 3/8 by 1/2 inch The switch body is 4 1/2 long 2 1/2 wide by 1 1/2 thick. The cord is 9 inches long from the very end to the body of the switch. It is not bulky at all it is a nice compact size i think. The channel on mine is up in the alphabet i don't want to tell it because i am using mine for a security system. I just wonder how many channels there is? If there is any problems I will update this review in the future. I think these reviews are a very powerfull tool for buyers! Thanks Amazon!

Newly Designed Remote, Reasonably Priced, Work Well So Far
When I was researching buying these I looked at the remote shown on Amazon's website and thought it looked cheap and would probably be the weak point in the durability of these devices. To my surprise the ones I received have a more modern and attractive design as well as looking and feeling sturdier. (I submitted a picture which you should be able to see here on the website) I really like these as they are very useful for lights or other electronics that are plugged in in hard to reach areas. A battery for the remote is included. The replacement battery is an A23 Battery, 12 Volt like the Energizer A23 Battery, 12 Volt - 2 Pack . For in home use I usually stick these to a wall with Velcro sticky back tape; this way you don't lose the remotes but you can easily pull them off the wall if you need to. There is only one 3 prong outlet to plug things into. In order to get around the channel limitation I have paired this with a Ziotek ZT1120131 HC1 Black Liberator Dual Outlet Wall Adapter, 2 Pack . I think I'll be trying the Leviton 692-W 15 Amp, 125 Volt, Triple Cube Grounding Adapter, White for my next bright idea. Not sure how these adapter would work outside as so far I am using them in either the house or garage. I ordered 4 of these and each one is a different channel. They sell these in 6 different channels (A-F). You cannot change the channel. The ones I received are channels A, C, D, & F. What this means is that if I had 2 different lamps in the same room and I wanted to turn them both on or off at the same time I would need to press the on/off button on both remotes. I had hoped that at least two of them would be the same channel but you can't specify what channels you want when you order. I hope that Woods will provide that option in the future. When you press the "on" button of the remote it turns on the light (or whatever you have plugged into it) and also turns on a small but bright red light on the plugged in connector unit. This doesn't matter much if it's outside or plugged in behind a couch but if it is someplace that is visible the light is rather glaring. For example, I gave one to my Mom to turn on a lamp that is in the front window. The wall plug is behind some sheer curtains and the light on it shines brightly through the curtains and is unsightly. A problem like this is really minor as a piece of duck tape over the light easily solves the problem. I am currently using a Skylink WS-100/WS-100N Wireless Remote Control, Channel A for a bedroom lamp and while they are very reliable they are also quite expensive. These are much more reasonably priced at about $8 when I bought them. These exact Woods units sell for $17.99 at Home Depot. So far these are working well but I'm giving this just 4 stars for now until I further test the distance these work from, how well they work outside, whether the remote holds up and if the "signal travels through walls, windows and doors" as the manufacturer claims. I would like to be able to use it to turn on a fan in the basement from upstairs . . . we'll see how that goes. I will update my review after I've had these a while longer.

Awesome product.. IF... and ONLY IF you make the antenna external.
I have the receiver under my desk behind my computer and it worked from across the room - well at least it did initially. But after a week or two it seemed to loose all its range and I was having to hold the on/off button under the desk pointing right at the receiver to get it to work. Then I read the reviews about uncoiling the antenna. So, I unplugged the receiver box and opened it (four screws). Then I carved a small notch in the side of the case with a steak knife. Next I uncoiled the blue antenna wire and screwed the receiver back together with the wire hanging out the notch. (Before I put it together, I put a loose knot in the antenna wire just inside the receiver, so it couldn't get pulled on and strain where it connected to the circuit board.) Now it works AWESOME. It works from all the way across the room - way further than it did when I first got it. For $10 bucks, this is a no-brainier got-to-have product (as long as you take the 10 minutes to make the antenna external). I plan to buy several more.

Works amazing for my Dust Collector
Installed this as a remote start for my woodworking dust collector. I hang the remote on my shop apron so I can turn the DC on anywhere in my shop. I have also accidently turned the DC on while inside the house, which is attached to the shop but not that close. Compared to buying purpose made remote control setups for Dust Collectors, this is so much more economical. If you have some basic electrical theory knowledge then I highly recommend using this over the commercial purpose built options on the market. But please pay attention to your DC motor ratings and consult a licensed electrician if you aren't capable. I had to use the switched outlet part to fire a motor contactor as my Dust Collector amperage is over the rating of the device.

Attention China, make one that works, I don't mind paying more
100' range? More like 10'. I purchased this Southwire Woods remote switch because I recognized the Southwire name as they make household wiring products that I've purchased at my local home improvement store. This is a worthless product. I wanted to use it to control a single light in our back yard from the kitchen, a distance of 47'. It wasn't capable. I could turn the light on from about 12', but had to get closer to turn the light off. Terrible. I tried the troubleshooting suggestions in the users manual, even tried another new battery. Made sure the remote was "paired" with the switch. Oh, it's paired, and it works, but only from about 10'. I returned it the same day I received it. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy.

Works Great...
This remote works great. It's being used with an extension cord to a block heater for my truck. The truck is parked in our driveway in front of the house, not in a garage. So, I can see the unit through the living room window, and its bright red light indicates that the block heater is getting juice. The remote's range is excellent. I can turn the power on or off from the basement. No problems even when temperatures go down to -30C. Don't have to go outside in the cold to plug in the block heater any more. I used to have a device which allowed me to program timed settings. That was ok when I was working and had a regular driving routine. Now I'm retired, and this unit is more suitable. I can turn it on or off any time. As a side point: If a vehicle has to be parked in such a way, that the little red light on the remote unit can not be seen from inside the house, an outdoor power cord splitter could be used, to channel power to both the block heater and another extension cord. This extension cord can have some kind of a light fixture attached at the end of it and it can be positioned in such a way, so that it's seen from the house, thereby, visually verifying the On or Off position of the remote unit. The remote unit would have to be attached between the splitter and the extension cord that goes to the house current. This unit has a max. 1000 watts rating, so this kind of setup should work.

Received a defective used product.... issues resolved
So I've been very excited to receive this product. It arrived today, and I couldn't be more disappointed. The package was already cut open when it arrived. Clearly it had already been returned once. When I tried to use it, I found out why it was returned. There seems to be a defect with the outlet as nothing will plug into it. I can see pinched metal inside the socket, and I am unable to get any plugs into it. Even simple plugs (like the iphone charger plug) can't fit in. I am so disappointed and frustrated to have to pay to return ship something that they sent, knowing it was defective!! I'll contact the seller directly and see if this can be resolved, and may adjust my review accordingly. Update: I contacted amazon and they were great about arranging to send me a new product and arrange free return shipping. So 5*s for that! However, my boyfriend was able to straighten the twisted metal inside the outlet so we are able to use the it now. It's working now, and the remote works great from inside the house to turn on Christmas lights. Hopefully it keeps working! 4* overall- lost a * due to receiving an opened product.
