For that purpose of a 4 x 8 raised bed garden of which we have 13 of them this is the perfect tool. Don't go buy anything big and overly expensive because you simply don't need it. It's not a big area, so I ordered this tiller to break up of the very dry, hard, and compacted ground. I did water the yard a couple of times, which helped a tiny bit, but still, this thing went through it like a dose of salts. Way, way more capable than I expected. There were some large buried stones (third-of-a-brick size), some inch-thick roots, and some old broken clay pipe sections. The worst that happened is the tiller would bounce off the largest stones but it just coped with everything else.
