You just insert two AA batteries (not supplied), plug the receiver into a USB port on your computer, and you're ready to go. At least, that's the theory. I was dismayed at first to find that it didn't work - until it dawned on me that you also have to switch the thing on (via a tiny slider on the left-hand edge). Silly me. Once past that hurdle, it worked perfectly, and has been working ever since.Although it's advertised as being for PowerPoint, it works with other software as well. The buttons that step forward and backward through the slides simply send PageUp and PageDown codes to the computer, which means that you can use it, for example, to scroll through a Word document or a PDF. I found that it also works happily with LibreOffice.One caveat: because there needs to be a line of site between the device and the receiver, it probably won't work with a USB port at the back of a desktop computer. You would either need to plug the receiver into a port on the front, or turn the computer round so that the back becomes visible. This won't be a problem when used with a laptop of course.On balance, I'm very happy with this device. Being able to control a presentation while moving around the room is a big plus for me.
