Does it have to plug into laptop directly or can it be plugged into usb hub connected to laptop?

This device can be plugged into any Data Connected USB Standard Type-A Port. IE as long as your hub can read a USB stick it can read this.

If it saves fingerprints locally, is it ok to unplug and plug it again? then, do i need to register my fingerprints again, or not?

for PCs, I believe it only stores some kind of a secure token via it's TPM hardware, this is all done via Windows Hello / Windows Hello for Business. It should continue to work once your fingerprint is saved, even if you unplug, and plug it back in. If you were to use it on a different computer, you would need to re-register your fingerprints.

Why does this not work with macos if it's a standard on-device storage fido2 security key?
