### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Different: dark and slightly bitter
*by F***. on October 3, 2019*

[Update] April 2, 2022 - Chestnut honey is my favorite honey, precisely because it is somewhat bitter, not sugar-like. However, the last two jars I ordered (9/27/21 and 3/8/22) show some crystallization at the bottom of the jar. Still good, yes, but chestnut honey, they say, crystallizes slowly. In plain English: the honey I got is older than I thought. Still good, of course, because honey never goes bad, but still... I will buy somewhere else.*[*Yummy Bazaar, in New Jersey, Italian chestnut honey]---------------I wanted to try chestnut honey. It is a dark honey, slightly bitter (as two other reviewers mentioned). It is entirely new to me and, I guess, it may be an acquired taste (like Roquefort was for my husband... years ago when a whole wheel cost only about $20). So, how many stars? Five for the moment, until I am used to it; right now, I prefer buckwheat honey.Update (Oct. 9, 2019). I love it. This is honey that should be eaten with a spoon; do not waste it to sweeten your tea or for cooking. Too bad, though, that the price is so high (close to $20 per pound). I shall look around and see if I can find it at local grocery shops.Update (May 26, 2020) -- Since then, the price has gone up; if you buy it in two seventeen-ounce plastic containers, it is still over one dollar per ounce. Too much! but I googled "Mira Nova" and there does not seem to be a less expensive supplier. Wait until October-December, when this year's production has to be "moved"; the price may go down.By the way, all honey prices seem to have jumped up starting in January: import tariffs, seasonal scarcity, inflation? Who knows? Meanwhile, try forest honey, and/or online suppliers like Yummy Bazaar and Supermarket Italy (Italy and Spain produce a lot of chestnut honey; but, still, the one from the Republic of Georgia is the best). These days, however, you may find that all the better "stuff" is already sold out.-------Update - August 2022Some reviewer tells you that this honey is too good to be used to sweeten your tea or coffee. That is correct. The same reviewer advises you to eat it on buttered toast/bread: wrong! Skip the toast or bread and the butter*; use a spoon [actually several spoons, so you don't have to wash it after you have licked all the honey].[* additional, unasked-for, information: both bread and butter are awfully fattening and should be avoided.]

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A must for honey tasting parties! Absolutely disgusting!
*by K***G on August 19, 2021*

I bought this along with over 30 honeys from around the globe for an exotic honey tasting party and everyone hated this one. I had no idea there would be a honey I didn't like! This honey is very bitter and gross, so I love making people try it. It's very unique and most people never suspect they aren't going to like it so it's so fun to have people try it. Because there really is no other honey like it, you need this in your collection and it needs to be included in any tasting party. (A good delicious one to balance this out is white honey.) I hope you all dislike it as much as we did! Try this unique honey today! It's worth it!

### ⭐ Arrived leaking and is very bitter possibly rancid
*by J***N on December 9, 2021*

I enjoy other honeys with strong and unique tastes. The package arrived leaking honey making for a sticky package inside and out. When tasting the honey in the container it's extremely bitter and we thought it was rancid. Didn't last on our shelf and was thrown away almost immediately. This may be a good gag gift or something similar but if you are looking for a quality honey that pairs well instead of disgust, I'd go a different route.
