Review: An essential read - I don't think I've ever read a book that made me feel this seen. Chanel's writing is precise, devastating, and unexpectedly beautiful. This book captures the emotional reality of trauma in a way I've never seen articulated so clearly - the confusion, the loss of agency, the quiet rage, and the long aftermath that doesn't resolve neatly.
Review: Her side. Her truth. Beautifully written. - Never really read a memoir before but I followed this story on the news. This book is incredible. The insights, the back story telling, the debt, the emotions. This is a review of someone who actually read it front to back. Not scanned or heard from a friend, like some of these “bad reviews”. They sound like they’ve never even read a book. And I find it ironic how people, even in the reviews, are trying to damage her name and pull her down. What happened can not be denied, he was found doing it. No matter what, men will never have to truly worry about getting too drunk and waking up with another man thrusting himself into you. You’d wake up and be like what a crazy night bro, let’s do it again. It’s the world we live in where victims aren’t considered victims if its a man doing the crime. And her story, this story, proves it time and time again. She didn’t have too many drinks and drink and drive and kill someone. She’s not the perpetrator. No one, man or women, deserves to be raped because they drank too much, or went to a frat party, or wore a dress. We need to take care of our fellow human beings. Why is it easily to take advantage of someone than to help them? I’m glad she put her name out. I’m glad she wants to tell her side, HER TRUTH, not the media’s and not what Brock “thought” happened. He’s a predator. Just like a cheater, he isn’t mad for what he did, just that he got caught. Wouldn’t be surprised if she wasn’t his first. How could you think someone who isn’t even conscious was enjoying it. F***ing disgusting on him and anyone that believes him. Great job Chanel.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you Chanel Miller !!

Thank you for writing this book !! The victim's retelling her version in the Brock Turner Stanford sexual assault case. A powerful indictment of the system that is biased towards the rich and the men who can get away with anything. It is a wonderfully written book without rancor. It is mature and hard hitting. I am amazed and in awe with her fortitude and her strength to endure not only the assault but the subsequent perversion of judiciary process. I had tears in my eyes as i read it. To add to the insult, the assailant was let off with a minor sentence. However, this book and our lives intersect in a different way. And that was the reason I wanted to read it. The judge in the case (after his recall) was appointed as the JV tennis coach at a local high school that my kiddo attends and plays tennis for. The school district didnt know of his involvement as a judge in this case and had hired him to coach girls JV tennis team !! So as the news was about to break and hit the headlines, we parents were hauled in for a tete-a-tete with school board to inform us and discuss what to do next. It was an interesting discussion with many parents ready to forgive and forget and let him continue coaching. I think we were the only ones in the group who were not for his continuance. Not having read the book (which was published a week later), we only knew some highlights based on our google searches. Once the news hit the headlines, a minor scandal broke in the community. Local residents were up in arms, they had started a petition to remove the coach. Local boards went up in flames. Eventually the judge was let go, but I still remember the divided opinion amongst parents. The view was that judge had done nothing wrong and that we should assess him solely based on his tennis credentials and whats good for our kids. The refusal to take a moral stand on issues like these was surprising to me. To stand in solidarity with the victim and to make a personal statement by supporting what is right seems the least minimum we can do (i feel). Now reading the book, I am convinced that the judge failed his basic duty. He failed to "judge" correctly. What is the appropriate penalty for his failure? Should we as a society continue to punish him for ever? All these seemingly simple questions, don't have simple answers. And I think, in the big scheme of things they dont matter. Cos what matters is this book, this name - Chanel Miller !! She represents what is good in the society, what our hope for our future is - or more so future of our girls and boys !! Let us cherish this beyond anything else ... Thank you once again, Chanel Miller for writing this book !!
