Rain for Sleeping and Relaxation

I have suffered from tinnitus for decades (for those of you who don't know, tinnitus is basically a phantom noise such as ringing or buzzing, in one or both ears, typically caused by damaged hearing from exposure to loud noise) and it has become increasingly difficult for me to sleep through the night. The ringing in my ears makes it virtually impossible to relax and I typically wake up 5-7 times per night. I have tried everything, including white noise machines, fans, air purifiers, and music...but nothing has really helped. While talking to my doctor, I told her that the only time I am not bothered by my tinnitus is when I'm in the shower. Then it struck me! Why had I not realized sooner...I needed a white noise machine that featured the sound of rain! So I did some research only to find the machines that offer rain sounds are fairly expensive. I then looked for a CD of rain sounds and I'm happy to say, I found this item on Amazon and for the first time in many years, I can actually put my head on the pillow at night and get some rest. The sound of the rain is very soothing; as other reviewers have stated, there is no thunder (which wakes me up) and the sound is consistent, no highs or lows, no changes in the intensity of the rainfall. I can still hear my tinnitus but this CD really takes the edge off and allows me to relax enough to fall asleep. I've been shopping on Amazon a long time, but this is my first review; I was prompted to write this because if anyone else out there is suffering with tinnitus, I wanted them to know that this product might really help them. It's a fraction of the cost of the white noise machines and can be played in any CD player that allows CDR/CDRW playback. I bought a little boombox for $20 with the repeat function and the CD sounds very clear. If you're on a tight budget, this is a far more affordable option than the white noise eco-machines and they also follow the same return policy as other Amazon products, so if you hate it you can always send it back for a refund. I'm grateful to Amazon for offering this item and hope this review will help at least one person out there who is suffering as I have. (Do make sure you have a player with a repeat function so your CD will play through the night without needing to be reset.) Good night and sweet dreams!

This cd definitely helps with sleep. Helps cover up ringing with a perfect “white noise” sound of rain. No thunder, no birds, etc. Just rain

I love lying in bed and listening to the sound of rain and with this CD I am now able to experience that as often as I wish. I've been listening to it every night and it helps calm down my busy mind and lull me off to sleep. It is also very focussing - basically white noise - so would be good for those wanting to use it for meditation etc. I do however agree with the reviewer who said there is something resembling a dripping tap noise in there. Although this is only mildly annoying, it's the reason I give the CD four stars instead of five. Overall though it was money well spent and I thoroughly recommend it.

I suffer from insomnia AND tinnitus and have been looking for CDs with soothing sounds but NO music. This fit the bill perfectly. I bought 3 and made a playlist in ipod that has the albums playing twice for over 6 HOURS of water sounds. It has helped me relax and actually get to sleep and with it and my white noise machine the tinnitus is not disturbing. The other 2 I bought were also by Joe Baker: Rain for Sleeping and Relaxation, and The Sound of Summer Rain. WORTH every penny!!

I was recently diagnosed with ADD-HD and put on a med whose side effect is insomnia - so I purchased a Nano and started downloading relaxing music. I'm guessing that I listened to over 50 mini plays and I purchased over a dozen but this is my go-to CD. I listen to this CD after 15-30 minutes of listening to a theta or beta wave which tends to quiet my mind/brain. It immediately relaxes me and within 15 minutes, I'm feeling like I'm ready to fall into a deeper sleep. The sound of rain is so relaxing to me. I can set the nano to shut down in whatever time I want but when I awake to either turn over or do that nighttime bathroom thing (hey I'm an older male), I need to take off my one head phone bud that is still in my ear. It's a steal for the MP3 price. Amazon has some of the best relaxing music available for a very resonable (cheap in my opinion) price.

These Joe Baker recordings are wonderful -- one long, continuous, undistorted sound track with no extraneous sounds, volume spikes, or music. My only issue is that, being ridiculously "old school," I prefer my audio to be as uncompressed as possible, so I listen to these recordings (or try to) on a now-discontinued Sony Discman portable CD player. I say "try to" because unfortunately either the digital mastering speed of these digital recordings which are burned to a CD-R or else the very long length of the recordings (73 - 78 minutes) will only play to a certain point on the Discman before there is a 1 -2 second pause in the playback and then the track resumes. This pause can recur later in the playback as well, and this problem occurs on every Joe Baker recording I have purchased. I tried playing some home-recorded CD-Rs that were under 60 minutes in length and did not experience this issue, so my belief is that this is because these recordings are so lengthy and perhaps the Discman, being older technology, can't effectively track CDs that are longer than about 60 minutes. Anyway, whatever the reason, needless to say, this pause interrupts the flow of the recording with a sudden jolt of silence, effectively destroying the relaxation effect. However, these discs will play back fine on a conventional CD player, so my complaint will probably be irrelevant to most folk reading this review.
