I could fit a change of cloths or a jacket as well if need be. I wouldn't take this on a trip, unless I had a second backpack or duffel. My assault pack was great for that use being as expansive as it was, but I didn't want a bag that big for back and forth to work or the coffee shop. I also don't suggest this as a day hike pack. I use my Osprey day pack for hiking, it's far better suited for climbing than this bag. Walking around town may be fine, but I can already tell you that the bag will make my back hurt on a real hike (like a day hike up Mt. Monadnock or something).
