It is more of a traditional headband size, rather than the kind that covers half your head. I can see this being worn lots of ways either with hair up or down. It is a gift so I can't review on the wear, however, I don't foresee there being any issues. It feels and looks very durable with a tight crochet. I love the fact that there are two buttons so that this can be adjusted to fit a smaller head. There are two reasons that I deducted a star from my rating. First, the headband is a bit snug. It fits my head just fine and I'm sure that it would just need a little stretching out to fit a larger head, so it's really not that big of an issue. Second, the sequins are iridescent silver. From the picture and the description, I had assumed they were plain silver, but they reflect quite a bit of color. This is a gift for my 11 year old sister so I actually think she'll be thrilled by that fun little detail. But it still should be mentioned in the description.
