## Description

A Patent Pending Microsoft PRO 3 compatible Integrated docking unit from eTauro. Officially named "DUCGe" that stands for DisplayPort, USB3, Charger and Gigabit ethernet. A highly engineered and very portable alternative to your Microsoft dock. Weighing at only 3.13 ounces, it fits perfectly on your PRO 3 for an integrated look. Featuring "Sign of Life" to give early visual indication your PRO 3 is ON instead of waiting for the screen to boot up. When powering PRO 3 down, hold the power button until the "Sign of Life" LED is OFF to ensure complete shut down. The side mounted design does not restrict PRO 3 viewing angle and allows easy thermal dissipation. It also features "Bus power" mode where no external power is needed for the DisplayPort, the USB3.0, and the Gigabit to work. Bus power is perfect for mobile application. When AC adapter is plugged in, it will charge the PRO 3 and supply plenty of power to all the attached USB devices. The gigabit port will provide a stable network connection many IT professionals want. Our unique design of eTauro DUCGe has a standard 2.1mm barrel DC connection to take power from any 36W laptop AC adapter with 12V to 16V DC output. This package will include our new portable power pack, a 36W supply, you can charge your PRO 3 from any standard electrical outlet. Leave your Microsoft dock at home but take the "DUCGe" out. Guarantee to work and fit your PRO 3 or return for exchange within 30 days. Please ask us or write to us on how to save SSD capacity on your PRO 3 as well as how to configure dual monitor set up using DisplayPort and DisplayLink technologies. Best SP3 dock/USB hub alternative.

*by W***E on Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2015*

I just received this, so my rating is based on first day use.Pain free installation and usage. Everything works exactly as advertised. I have not run any benchmarks yet, but the gigabit network seems faster than another I have used on a hub/Ethernet. Hugely faster than my Wi-Fi connection speed. The included power supply is quite compact, comparable to the factory power supply for the SP3 (about 1/4" shorter and 1/2" thicker)I discovered this item when looking for a powered USB 3 hub for the SP3. There is not enough power from the lone USB3 port to run multiple items, especially if one of them is a USB3 hard drive. This item seems more convenient to use, since it does not hang from a dongle, and can also be used to charge the SP3 while in use. It is a little more expensive than most, but the added features seem to make it worth it. Plus, it can be used as an unpowered port expander for low power demand situations. The ability to tilt at any angle, or leave the device on when using the SP3 as a tablet is a big plus, and is an improvement from any of the other USB hubs or the Microsoft dock.I tried to use it when the SP3 is in my protective ESR case, but it doesn't quite fit well enough to keep the charger connection and etherenet port working. (The built in blue light stays off, an easy warning.)I have read other reviews from other sites, and would like to address some of the cons I had read in advance as well as some of my pre-purchase concerns:- Fussy about plugging in to SP3: I did not find this to be true at all. Just line things up and plug it in. No tricks, not extended effort. Seems to be attached quite firmly.- No color choice - MAC white only. I agree with those that say if there is only one choice it should be the black or dark grey colors used by default on the SP3 itself. Still, it does not look ugly, just an obvious add-on.- Barrel power input receptor not same as SP3 standard power receptacle. Unlike the reviews I read, I see this as a good thing. It makes it usable with other power supplies you might have around from previous laptops. More importantly, SP3 external battery packs are virtually non existent and the ones you can find require a very expensive convert cord to use with an SP3. However, the more standard input means you can use existing laptop battery packs with the SP3 using this more standard receptacle.- Ventilation and heat. It does seem to block air flow on the attachment side. However there is a slight gap. This seems to be enough, since I do not detect any extra heat on the SP3 or on the dock.I would like to have had an option for the AC/DC power supply at time of purchase. The smaller AC only power ships with the device. The manufacturer says they can give assistance on multiple display and minimizing SSD capacity. Link to that info at [...]. I would have like to have seen an HDMI port built in (although adapters are available, it is one more thing to lose in transit). They make other devices and adapters, but did not see the items I was interested in for sale on Amazon. There web site shows product line ([...]) and they do sell a power adapter that will work with DC or AC, but it is a little bulkier.I will update review after I have had this for a while (I expect to be using it quite often). I only rate 5 stars if something strikes me as perfect. If it was not for the color I probably have given it 5 stars since it does everything it says it will do, and has many advantages over the more expensive Microsoft dock.WJC 8/13/15Updated my rating to 5 stars after using it a while. Considering that it includes a way to charge the SP3 without the proprietary plug, it is a real bargain. Better yet, power options get expanded tremendously by this non-proprietary jack. If you have an existing laptop power source with 12 Volts and 2.1 mm plug, you can use it. This is in addition to the reasonably priced power sources (AC or DC) available from Tauros.Big Plus - external battery options become available at reasonable prices! 20000 to 30000 mAh for $89 to $129 bucks. If you are a hard core user that needs longer untethered time, this will get you there. I have confirmed with manufacturer that this is all acceptable. There only warning, make sure you have a solid 12 V, (or maybe kick it up to 16V).This is a great bang-for-the buck alternative to the Microsoft dock, and very portable.----------------------------------------------I have owned for over a year now, and am still very happy with it. I have traveled all over the country with it, and found it to be very useful and reliable.

Amazing price for a form-fitting dock that turns the Surface Pro 3 into a desktop machine.

*by C***C on Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2017*

This has been one of the best accessory additions to my Surface Pro 3! I had some reservations about the build quality from other reviews and, while the plastic does look a little cheap, I've had no issues with actual build quality whatsoever. It connects to the tablet pretty securely and easily and turns it into an excellent desktop computer. The only down side is more of an architecture limitation than the actual product since the built-in ethernet port uses the USB data bus and can therefor make the tablet work a little harder since it uses software to emulate the port rather than offloading the work to a dedicated chipset like wifi does. That being said, you'll probably never notice unless you really push the tablet to its limits like I do and run into thermal throttling a little earlier than I usually do. The simple solution here is just to use wifi if it becomes an issue.

a cheaper functional alternative to the MS unit

*by E***S on Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2015*

The device is well designed and manufactured for basic functionality. It provides a passthrough of the DP, a powered 4X USB 3.0 replicator and a wired LAN port (undoubtedly produced from a USB to LAN converter). I compare it with a MS dock seen in a video. The MS dock costs $199 and offers the same functionality in a bulkier but more easily attached and detached form. The MS dock is similar in cost to any laptop dock. If one needs to use the SP3 at home and work one would like to have two docks. The MS unit would involve $400 dollars. The eTauro unit is portable but portability requires the attaching/detaching of all cables thus negating one of the functions of a dock. Two eTauro units could be used as with the MS unit at less than half the cost. Detaching the eTauro unit (with all cables attached) from the SP3 is not as easy as with the MS unit but is doable. Since wired LAN units have become increasingly less necessary either dock serves mostly as a powered USB 3.0 port replicator. A pair of powered USB hub dongles can be obtained at much less cost.
