It is small and light. (Many of these kits will use only the sharpener and its vinyl pouch, removing the plastic clip and even the split ring for best compactness.)Plate style sharpeners are easier to use with Scandi ground blades, and to repair a damaged edge. The small pen-cap rod sharpeners can be effective in sharpening secondary bevels if the rod is long enough, if you know the technique, and if you know and hold the right angle.The not so great: The plastic clip isn't as useful as the sharpening plate - it's big, binds, and makes the "H" too big for many uses without removal of the clip.
