They say read "quickly", but in 10 seconds they say 6.5 in 20 seconds 7.25,, etc. 1 minute at 8. Never stable.** A: They should be read within a few seconds of dipping the test strip in the fluid and immediately pulling it out. In the example given in your question, the pH would be 6.5. I used my strips to check the pH of central Florida well water, a truly vile fluid, and they displayed a stable 6.25 after dipping them in my sample for perhaps 1/4 second. **Q: test soil?** A: No. These are for liquids only. **Q: Can these be used to test soil ? And pool water?** A: I purchased these strips for soap making. I assume that these strips can be used to test both pool water and soil. The only thing that concerns me is I’m seeing the highest ph number on the packaging stops at a 9. There are others strips that test as high as 14. While the strips will give you an approximate range of pH value, it is often hard to determine a specific value. With these strips the indicator colors are easy the use and each pair of colors is clearly specific to a specific pH value.
