With the release of the sequel Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice (2024), I just had to re-watch the original to refresh my memories of the plot and characters before I sat down to see the sequel. I'm glad that I did because it allowed me to make connections to the sequel. Definitely watch this one first before seeing the sequel. This 4K release is well done. Both the video color and sound quality seem incredible compared to the 1988 standards used at the time. Still, the 30+ year gap does reveal the limits of video technology and special effects used at the time, but I trust that most audiences will forgive these limitations because who could have anticipated the digital standards of 2024. No problems were observed during playback on a 4K player. The video is relatively vivid with accurate color reproduction. The sound quality is dependent on the sound system in use; external speakers will improve the quality over internal TV speakers.
