There are 3 LED bulbs that will shine in a horizontal position or if you desire there are 2 LEDs that you can have shine vertically (from the top of the unit). These units will not light from both spots simultaneously so you need to pick which works best for your situation. Just to be clear these are not night lights. There is a small red LED that lights to let you know that the unit is charging and ready to go if the power goes out. But the red LED is not bright enough to be a night light. For me, I have one mounted at the base of my steps so that no one trips coming down the stairway in the dark in a blackout.
