## Description

#1 New York Times bestselling series The first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that inspired the hit ABC Family TV show Pretty Little Liars. In ultra-trendy Rosewood, Pennsylvania, four beautiful girls are hiding very ugly secrets. High school juniors Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily have grown apart since their best friend Alison DiLaurentis went missing three years ago. But now someone is sending them anonymous notes, threatening to reveal their darkest secrets. There’s only one person who knows that much about them, but Ali’s gone . . . isn’t she? Full of unexpected twists and shocking revelations, this is the first book in New York Times bestselling author Sara Shepard’s compelling Pretty Little Liars series.

Review: Delightful Guilty Pleasure - Yes I gave Pretty Little Liars 5 stars. No, this novel is not in the same category as Shakespeare, but for what it is, it's great. I wanted to read the series after seeing ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars. The TV show does differ from the books. SPOILER ALERT! The premise: At the end of seventh grade, a clique of 5 girls was ruled by one of the girls, Allison. Allison is the classic "mean girl." The girls all had a secret referred to only as "the Jenna thing" which bonds them and keeps them close. Allison then disappears and the rest of the girls fall out of touch. It's now the beginning of junior year for them and they all start receiving mysterious texts from "A." The problem-A knows everything about them including secrets they don't want others to know. So, who is A? The characters: Aria-Having returned from being out of the country for 2 years, she meets the man of her dreams at a local bar. Only problem-he turns out to be her English teacher. Spencer-The typical over-achiever, Spencer is out to be the best-and to move out from underneath her perfect sister's shadow. One Emily-A competitive swimmer struggling to meet her parent's high expectations, Emily starts to become confused about what she wants including if that means she wants a boyfriend or girlfriend. Hanna-When Allison was here, Hanna was the "fat friend." Now, she's turned into Rosewood's "It" girl. Of course, she has her share of problems-a dad who she doesn't talk to anymore, a boyfriend who won't sleep with her, etc. Comparison to the TV show-I personally, even though I'm 30, think Pretty Little Liars is a great show. Very guilty pleasure! Well, I think the first novel was actually better than the TV show.
Review: A Great First Start - It’s been three years since the night Alison went missing leaving Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hannah on their own. Alison was the glue that held them together and without her the girls drifted apart moving off on their own paths. Each girl has spent the last three years changing while Aria really had the chance to find herself in Finland, and Hannah lost all the weight to be the hottest girl in school. While Emily has worked hard at swimming and is already being watched by scouts and Spencer is focused on academics being better than her older sister. Alison was known for knowing a lot more than most about the girls and when start showing up only things that Alison knew the girls start to question what happened to her. Someone knows more about their lives and is threating to reveal all their secrets. The girls are wondering if Alison has returned after all this time gone. The case has long been cold but a new lead may just change everything. We have four points of view a little insight from each girl who happens to each being dealing with her own share of problems. I didn’t have a favorite girl who I was able to connect with like I did on the show but that could be because it’s only been a week in the book. I’ve been on the fence since I watched the first season of the TV show on ABC family. I recently got into a little chat about who could possibly be A on the TV show and decided to give it a shot. First off the girls don’t look like they do on the show and it kind of irked me a bit. It was interesting to see how it played out in the book and I honestly think it works better. I like that we get to see an insight into each of the girls lives and found it interesting that while it’s different from the show some things still are the same. Pretty little Liars is a YA mystery that mixes a coming of age story entwined with romance and tragedy. The author had done a great job of weaving a captivating story. I’m curious to see how the series plays out and I very well may read the rest of the books they are quick and fast paced reads.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you liked the Pilot Tv Show, You will like this
*by B***S on December 18, 2013*

Being a fan of the television series Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family, I was very interested in reading this series. How would the books differ from the television show? What characters were from the book and which ones were added only for the show. I loved Pretty Little Liars! This book was well written and the characters are amazing. They are all so different and they compliment each other well. I went back and forth with my rating from 5 hearts to 4 hearts, than ultimately rated as 5 hearts. I ad to base this rating on the book and writing itself. The reason for this was because I had already watched the television series and live it more than the book. I'm sure if I had read the book first, I would give it higher praise. There is plenty of humor, mystery and tantalizing situations throughout the book. Girls gossip and the gossip in scandalous! This book basically covers the fist episode in the television series. I plan on continuing to see if there is anything different in the books than there is in the show. I gave this ♥♥♥♥♥ out of ♥♥♥♥♥ on Goodreads
