Leaving 2 sticks per 5 gallon carboy for 6 to 8 weeks during bulk aging works great. Our wine ends up with just the right amount of oakiness and a mild oak aroma. To the nose, the cabernet grapes dominate and the oak spirals add a pleasant well balanced aroma. I'll be purchasing them again next season.
