Whether you're scuba diving, freediving, or snorkeling, a snorkel doesn't need to be a fancy device with a hundred bells and whistles.Don't overpay for features that won't always work and add weight and unnecessary complexity to something that should be so simple. Scuba snorkels can come with an array of technologies that try to make your life better like splash guards that stop water from accidentally coming in at the top, or blow valves that allow you to easily vent your snorkel. But these don't always work great, they add weight and bulk, and they're just one more thing that can go break.So instead, keep it simple with a simple J snorkel that does nothing more complicated than letting you breathe in and out without any frills. I've used this for extended periods of several hours and haven't experienced any mouth or jaw discomfort but of course, your mileage may vary.There's no reason this won't last a lifetime unless you somehow get rolled by a giant wave and lose half your gear.
