Review: Pretty Buttons - I have always loved the nintendo controllers with the colorful buttons so my husband bought me this controller as a gift. I love this controller and the functions work perfectly with my SNES. My toddler loves to use this controller as well since i can tell her what color button to press instead of trying the explain the X and Y buttons. Great purchase and seller shipped quickly compared to the estimated delivery date.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work with an American SNES, or *only* with the Japanese Famicom?**
A: American SNES can use it.Thanks.

**Q: Does it have left & right top bumpers, cant tell from picture.**
A: Yes, the button layout is the same. The main difference is the Japanese controllers came with a shorter cord (about 3 feet), extension cable is required to use it conveniently.

**Q: Does this work with the fc twin?**
A: If regular SNES controllers do, yes. Super Famicom controllers are the same thing with different cosmetics and shorter cables, except that there's a much, much higher chance the controller will feel new and not have worn out buttons like almost every American controller. This is due to the fact that Japanese people take care of their things much better than we do here. Super Famicom games new in boxes, even if they're Chrono Trigger or something, never cost that much compared to here because most people in Japan neatly filed their boxes on a shelf instead of throwing them away or leaving them out. Etc. Etc.

**Q: It just me or super famicom controller's wire shorter than my usa snes controller's?**
A: They're way shorter. The original Famicom had the controllers built-in with similarly short wires. As such, the Japanese public was accustomed to huddling closer to the TV with another player, and so Nintendo made the Super Famicom controllers the same way. They made the wire longer for Western audiences who need a ton of room.

*by T***N on July 1, 2016*

Note: This is a legit controller for the Japan Famicom (US equivalent is the Super Nintendo) and will work out of box on either system. I professionally speed run SNES game and use a Famicom as my primary controller. Need to choose between the two? I got you. I own over 10 of each controller including brand new (I mean...20 years in a box) versions of each. Here is the breakdown: MOVEMENT/D-PAD Winner: SNES The major difference here is diagonal movements. On the SNES controller, you can feel a slight "lock" when you go in a diagonal direction. It's a mechanism that allows for accurate diagonals. On the Famicom, this doesn't exist. In the trade, we call it "getting Famicomed". You will be going up/left, when the controller decides randomly to go left. Or up. Or down. Or in circles. You have to press diagonals with purpose on Famicoms. TOP L/R BUTTONS Winner - N/A I speedrun EarthBound, so the L button is priceless to me. And having worn down many L buttons in my day, I can safely say this one is a toss-up. The SNES controller is a little less 'clicky' but also more silent. The Famicom buttons snap a bit more but sound like a mini collision while you do it. It's about preference here. As long as the rubber underneath is good both function. XABY BUTTONS Winner: Famicom The Famicom buttons press with purpose (more 'click' registration) which is why it gets the nod, but there are other subtle differences. The X and Y button on the SNES are concave with the A and B buttons being convex. On the Famicom, all buttons are rounded and convex. That's more of a preference item, but a lot of people playing games that use all 4 buttons prefer the uniform convexity. STAR/SELECT BUTTONS Winner: N/A Just like the L/R buttons, SNES is more fluid, Famicom is more clicky. I do text mash with the select button, so I prefer Famicom style of 'clickiness' but neither seems to be better or worse quality than the other. DESIGN/FEEL Winner: Famicom This one is kind of subjective, but the color scheme, convexity of buttons, and more "plastic" feel makes the Famicom feel more sturdy and responsive. PORTABILITY Winner: SNES Both controllers work on both systems, but the real kicker here is cord length. THE FAMICOM HAS ABOUT A 2 FOOT CORD. Therefore, if you want to sit anywhere away from your SNES box, this will not be the right choice for you. I speedrun at a console a food away from my body, so for me it's not an issue. The SNES controller cord is significantly longer. VALUE Winner: Famicom Put it this way. Americans value their crap a lot more than the Japanese. So whether you're buying new or used controllers the Famicoms will be WAY cheaper. It's rare to even find a new SNES controllers, but you can buy a never used Famicom off Amazon for 40 bucks and call it a day. Plus, I feel like the Japanese take better care of their stuff. I have ordered countless used SNES and Famicom controllers...and the Famicoms are always in better shape. ------------- I hope some of this helped you make a decision! Stay fast, everyone. - UltimoIce
