They look great with all kinds of crazy aquarium decorations! Dwarf crayfish are also known as mini lobsters, although true lobsters do not exist in freshwater. The Cajun Dwarf Crayfish is very similar to the Orange CPO Crayfish in appearance and behavior, aside from the obvious difference in color. Additionally, they are easy to care for, and feeding is simple - they feed on leftover food or almost any kind of fish food. Cuttlebone can be added to the aquarium to supplement calcium and will aid in exoskeleton production. Dwarf crayfish like this one are among our favorite invertebrates here at Aquatic Arts and an excellent choice for the nano aquarium or planted aquarium, such as a moss aquarium. They are larger than dwarf shrimp and tend to live much longer, but are still small enough to comfortably live in a tank as small as a 5 gallon aquarium. They are very active and don’t typically hide during the day like most larger crayfish. Though this crayfish is small enough not to be a threat to most other tank inhabitants, they have on occasion gone after dwarf shrimp (e.g. Neocaridina shrimp, such as Sakura Red Cherry Shrimp), so we cannot guarantee safety for dwarf shrimp when raising them in the same aquarium tank.
