I would guestamate the weight to be no more then 2 and a half or 3 pounds at best. They are well built and the push button extending system to lengthen the handles work to perfection. **Q: Is this the one with the holes? I need to cut some sturdy **pyracantha bushes** and don't want to buy the wrong ones?** A: Yes, it has holes. **Q: How do the extension handles lock in place?** A: There are holes up and down the handle where a up and down lock clicks into. Can this tool cut through the woody parts underneath?** A: Gonicc has two models of extension hedge shears, a heavier duty with “holes” in the blades and a lighter weight “wavy” edged blades trimmer. I purchased both and they are easy to use and efficient. The open hole blades cuts slightly larger diameter and more wooden branches such as climbing roses and bushes. The wavy blades worked well on jasmine vines, thinner bougainvillea branches and I could cut longer sustained periods because of their light weight. In any case, they both have unique designs that seem to work for my gardening jobs and my professional gardener has given an enthusiastic thumbs up since he has only ever used Corona products (which are also great too.)
