The horrified father takes the mutant baby from the hospital and throws it away. A strange rain of firebolts merge together and strike the tiny corpse, bringing it back to life ... er, sort of. Hell baby lives and crawls and grows, but has the nasty habit of dropping maggots everywhere.When she is seven years old, Hell Baby leaves the dump, searching for something that seems to call to her through the piles of garbage and city streets. The city does not welcome her presence though, because Hell Baby is hungry.Hell Baby is illustrated in a nicely gross way, but the book, in my opinion, held too many "dead cells" for a graphic novel; filler cells that showed nearly the same thing in the previous cell or nothing at all. That part was disappointing. The storyline was pretty typical too, though the gross meter is above average.My recommendation would be to find a used copy and not pay full price, or see if your local library can get a hold of it for you. There are better graphic novels out there. 'Hell Baby' was fun for the grossness, but disappointing in cell design and plot. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ All the Hino you want *by R***B on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 3, 2009* In this standalone tale from Hideshi Hino, you see an abandoned twin left to die in a garbage dump, unwanted by her family and ostracized from all civilization. Hell Baby is without speech for the entire book, though this is one of the better devices this story uses. Throughout the shriek!'s you come to feel for this character of circumstance -- this HELL BABY -- and Hino's sympathetic side appears between a mad picture of grotesque imagery and sharp allegory.Some may be turned off from this story for its blood and gore, but underneath this Graveyard of Horror is a quirky and fine-tuned story of redemption and even forgiveness. I thought it was an interesting manga but it could have been better. I felt that it was really short and that there could have been more to it. I did feel bad for Hell Baby and grew somewhat attached to her. Would I recommend it? Sure.
