It is made of sturdy iron which is powder coated. There is an inner plastic container which is removable. It is not a compost bin. Basically, you store a day's kitchen waste in this and at the end of the day empty it into a composter. The inner plastic bin can be removed and cleaned and used again. Since there is a cap, the container stays odourless for a day.
