We are teaching our 19 month old to say "sorry" and I was hoping this book would be a hit like the "Bear Says Thank You" one that we have from the same series. However, this doesn't really teach when to say sorry to a toddler without more explaining. Basically, the mouse gets mud everywhere and disrupts a bunch of people, each page is someone saying something like, "Watch out, Mouse!" or "Careful, Mouse!" and the mouse just saying, "Sorry!" in return. That's it. The end, he gets in trouble for being late, and his response is, "Sorry, I got here as fast as I could." That's it. Not much of a story if you ask me.... I don't really think that this book teaches sorry. The illustrations are cute, and hopefully me reading this to her and just saying "sorry" a bunch of times helps, but I don't think she really gets the point with this one. ### ⭐ Missing the message! *by G***N on Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2018* Our family is a big fan of the books in this series – Penguin Says Please was an early favorite. I'm sad to report that Mouse Says Sorry did not live up to that standard! Here's the plot: this poor little mouse rushes home, running over various creatures in his zeal to get there quickly (inspiring him to say sorry quite often). Upon arrival, he is berated by his dad mouse and, with tears in his eyes, replies, I got here as fast as I could! Geeze louise – this poor mouse ruined a lot of other critters' days trying to rush home and was met with no understanding or sympathy or encouragement! Not to mention, there's no real understanding of what "sorry" really means in this book. The thing I am MOST sorry about is that I missed the return window. To MOUSE SAYS SORRY, I say, no thank you! ### ⭐⭐ Don't love the message- prefer the other Hello Genius books much more *by A***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2018* I like this series of books, but I found this one rather flip and does not really teach why we say sorry. The mouse runs through various situations, making a mess and destroying other people's belongings, and then just says sorry and runs off. He is late to dinner and says sorry to his mother. It kind of implies that he was correct to do all of the other things because he was late. I would prefer more emphasis on making things right when you are wrong instead of just saying "sorry" and running away.
