How does this calculate the are of the holding tank

The switch runs two types of cycles. One is the calibration cycle, the other is a timed cycle. Calibration cycles are run when the unit first powers up, and after every 50 cycles. During a calibration cycle the switch monitors the motor current while the pump is running and looks for the drop in current which will come when the pump transitions from pumping water to drawing in some air. The drop in current indicates that the pit is empty and switch turns the pump off. During a calibration cycle, the switch times how long it takes to empty the pit, and for the next 50 cycles it will run time based cycle that is 75% of the time it took to empty the pit. This keeps the pump primed and the seals wet.

Will this switch work with an underfloor type sump system? The effluent level only can rise to a maximum of about 5 inches at pump start, and drops only to about 2 inches at shutdown

Hi Bill,The HC5000 needs a minimum runtime of about 5 seconds to work correctly. If you pump takes longer than the 5 seconds from starting to pump water to starting to draw in air, it should work fine. If you application is not for sewage/toilet waste, then I would recommend our HC6000 which does not have any run time limitations. Please let me know if you have any other questions I can answer for you. Thanks.

Does this come with the rubber grommet for installation?

Yes, every HC5000T Sewage Switch is shipped with the grommet indicated in the instructions.

How long is the cable?

The standard cable length is 12 feet. We can customize the length up to 50 feet. Thank you for your interest in our Model HC5000 Sewage Pump Switch. Kind regards, HydroCheck .
