I have bought lots of different brands of tmc2208 drivers and needed UART mode, but my soldering skills are terrible. I have a BIQU skr1.3 and these do not need any soldering, they are plug and play, all that is needed is to add jumper pads to the red pins outside the driver ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Constantly layer shifting, faulty poor quality control *by M***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 June 2021* I went through two separate batches of these BTT/BiQU TMC2130 drivers. In theory they should work well, silent and fully configurable via software given their SPI interface.I had a working machine and felt the time had come to upgrade to the 32-bit world so went for a BTT SKR1.4 board with BTT (BIQU) TMC2130 drivers. Granted changing two major components (main board *and* motor drivers) complicated the debugging (I wasn't happy with the BTT SKR board but that's a separate review) but I had to come to the conclusion the drivers themselves were faulty/defective.Initially my machine was a 12v powered RAMPS board with 8825 drivers - worked perfectly (but noisily). Changed the mainboard to the SKR 1.4 with these TMC2130s and got constant and random layer shifting in x & y directions. As far as I could tell every layer was printed somewhere different. My printer went from working to simply making plastic spaghetti.The one thing in my favour was I knew the machine was fine so it was not a mechanical issue (e.g. loose bearings or belts) it could only be the electronics.I returned the first batch of TMC2130s and got a separate batch. These still exhibited the ridiculous levels of layer shifting. I tried a different SKR board and it still exhibited layer shifting with the 2130s.The only way I could get anything approaching a decent print was reducing the entire speed of the machine (20mm/s print speed, 40mm/s travel, 100mn/s/s acceleration) which was ridiculous as the printer was easily capable of printing at 100mm/s. However, even then the printer struggled to print anything more than a 20mm calibration cube.In my routling around the internet I found a few (unsubstantiated) comments that the TMC2130s really run better at 24v. Since this was another planned upgrade I had in mind, I took the step early and replaced the power system with a 24v set up.Changing to 24v made absolutely no difference, still stupid levels of layer shifting. Switching out the TMC2130s for the 8825 drivers I had used in my RAMPS board and (one of) the SKR boards printed perfectly. Therefore, I can only assume the BIQU TMC2130 are, to put it bluntly, rubbish.I suspect (despite ample available cooling) that the drivers are over-heating which might be because of poor board design (thin copper traces, I believe Trinamic recommends 2oz copper); it might be because they did not put in enough vias (or painted over them); or it might be the glue they use to attach the heat sinks being cheap non-thermally conductive?! Who knows. I saw sense and bought Watterott drivers and those work perfectly (but again thanks to poor/inaccurate BTT documentation require a fudge to get working)On the whole BTT/BIQU appear to make "adequate" and cheap products. I think the core issue is their products are too cheap, basically they've cut too many corners. Quality control is a major [problem] area. In researching this problem I kept stumbling across issue after issue where they've mislabelled, mis-manufactured something which either destroys ancillary equipment or requires fudges and work-arounds.I would not recommend these drivers.
