    Soft, thick leather

*by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2018*

I've been riding motorcycles for almost 50 years--everything from baggers to super-sport bikes, and everything in between--classics, cafe racers, choppers--you name it. I've tired to add up all the leather motorcycle jackets I've owned--new and used over that half century--but I lose count after about 15. While I tend to lavish what cash I can afford on my bikes--I tend to be frugal when it comes to motorcycle clothing. However, I only ride in leather jackets--and they have to have good, thick leather or I won't get on the bike. Cowhide has saved my hide more than once. But still, I'm not going to spend $600 on a jacket; heck, I've never even paid $200.Now about this jacket--the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good: First, it is without doubt not only the softest and most supple leather I have ever encountered in a MC jacket, it is also among the most substantial. I measured a pinch with my calipers and got an easy 2.5 mm everywhere. So a single thickness should be a good 1.2 mm. That is a great combination, soft and thick. It will need no breaking in. BTW, the leather has an unusual surface--almost but not quite like suede. I know not how they get this finish, but it sure is nice.As other reviewers have observed, the workmanship is good--with strong, tight stitching and solid zippers--and all the pockets are usefully deep. Also, while most jackets with zip-out insulated liners have a crappy mesh inner lining, this jacket has a traditional satin lining, making it very easy to slip on with the thermal liner removed. The Bad: The sleeves are too short for a MC jacket. Admittedly I'm configured rather like an ape. But none of my MC jackets has ever had such short sleeves. I'll need my gauntlet gloves to keep cold winds from blowing up my wrists. And speaking of cuffs (OK I wasn't speaking of cuffs, but I am now) these cuffs are gusset yes, but the gussets are less than generous. I have bony wrists but these cuffs are close even on me. I don't intend to wear it with the thermal liner--but that liner is pretty thin and skimpy. Also, there are no grommet vents under the arms--which should be standard on any MC jacket. The Ugly. I'm not a big fan of black leather: it's too hot, and it's too cliched. Most of my jackets, therefore, have been shades of brown, and what attracted me most about this coat was the matte, tan color. So here's where it gets ugly. The coat has shiny silver zippers and snaps, and the zipper tape is black. Really, the zippers and snaps should be bronze or copper colored to "go" with this jacket hue, and the zipper tape should be light brown. In person, it looks even"blingy-er" than in the pictures. This traditional-styled jacket (which, incidentally was created by Irving Schott in 1928 and named "The Perfecto"--after a popular cigar) is, of course, full of in-your-face details: wide lapels and collar, big epaulets, broad belt with wide keepers and a hefty buckle--not to mention those cheesy (and non Schott) side lace thingies. I cut off most of this stuff, and I've attached a picture so you can see what the coat looks like "bling-downed" a bit. It's a mater of taste, of course; but my very fashion-conscious, artist daughter had no doubts when I modeled it without the "accessories." "No question," she said, "better looking without."So that's my review. The missing star, BTW, is strictly for the garment's practical "short" comings--not the styling details which I have altered to suit. But one more thing about sizing. I am slim and vertically challenged, with a 39 inch chest. I wanted this jacket to fit trimly and be short in the waist (for sitting my bagger)--hence my choice of the Perfecto style. As I said, I intend to wear it without the thermal liner, and the size 40 fits me perfectly that way--no belt or side laces necessary to take up slack. I won't be able to fit much under it--maybe a thin fleece over my long sleeve T's. But I got what I wanted. So--in the words of the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins--"Hurrah sweet myself!"

    Nice jacket

When I got jacket in it was bare with no conditioner on outside leather. After conditioning with leather waterproofing color really came to light and sizing was exactly correct.

    My son loved it...

*by D***D on Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2012*

My son absolutly loved the jacket especially the color. He said "everyone has a black jacket" thats why I love the beige one better. As for my experience, it was just fine, the product arrived when it was promised and in good shape, I will definitely order from Amazon again, thanks everyone.
