It has a full handle, meaning you can get all four fingers around it for a full grip and a solid cut. The steal is sharp and ready to go. The case locks the knife inplace and I haven't had it fall out yet. I like the orange handle so I can lay it down on the ground and find it again. Your not going to pound tent stakes in with it, like a K-bar, but that's not its intended purpose. I like it so much I bought two. How does it perform** A: I process 10-15 whitetail deer annually. I use Mora 511 carbon and Mora 546 stainless knives for gutting, skinning and quartering. My wife uses boning knives for the rest of the processing. Both of the Mora models are excellent for my part of the process. In comparing carbon and stainless I will say that contrary to common opinion, I find that the stainless Mora holds an edge for considerably longer than carbon. I attribute this to the fact that deer hides are often imbedded with abrasive dirt and the chrome content of stainless steel provides wear durability in abrasive conditions. And, the fine grained nature of the Mora stainless steel allows you to sharpen to almost as fine an edge as carbon (fine enough to easily shave hair). Either steel works great for this application, but my experience is that stainless holds the edge in abrasive conditions a bit longer. **Q: Why is the 546 Stainless more expensive than the Pro S stainless?** A: Thanks for mentioning they are similar. However, the Pro S is $2 more as of 2022; reportedly, the handle is rubber on it. This one 546 is full, hard plastic. **Q: Does this have the polished spine like some other models?** A: This knife has the ground spine with rounded edges. Will not work well with a striker fire atarter. I haven't found any other brands that make as good of a sheath as Mora. There is no flap to get in the way, and the knife is secure. Considering I sheath and unsheath this thing so much, this is critical to me. This knife is also just small enough that when you pull it out to work, people are not scared of it. The Mora Companion knife (while also a great knife) appears to be just over that line and has caused a gasp or two with its slightly larger blade. Easy to sharpen, holds a decent edge, takes to stropping well, socially acceptable, and a great sheath. I also won't cry if it disappears and these are a great value for what you get.
