The fundamental issue is that you can't wedge them into position, due to their design they don't like being jammed in between two objects and will just wiggle out on their own. With a window where you have inconsistent forces on the object due to changing winds, the window tends to move back and forth slightly and without a wedge holding it firmly in place, this stopper just backs itself out and falls over.
